Need help identifying a weed?

Hi everyone,

I am a totally new gardener and just bought my first home in California. There is a plant that is over taking my yard in several places. I posted a photo of it on my website

The previous owner planted many edible fruit trees and other edible plants. But I'm not sure what this one is or if it's even edible. Any help indentifying it would be FANTASTIC! Thanks in advance for the help and I look forward to hearing from you.

That a very pretty weed! It looks like a perennial trumpet flower. If its annoying, a spray of a broad leaf weed killer will reduce it down. Something with a systemic action that also kills the roots. If it releases seeds from small pods under spent flowers, its probably spreading that way as well.

It is certainly a four-o-clock and a very pretty specimen it is, too. If they were in my yard, I would leave a few to enoy.

Kaleidoscope is a cool 4:00 variety as well:)
they are really easy to do from seed
