Has anyone had any success planting either Cornelian cherry (Cornus mas) or Highbush cranberry (Viburnum trilobum) under pine trees? One of the last available spots I have for planting larger shrubs is under a row of pines bordering our driveway, where it gets very little direct sun. Limbs have been removed to an accommodating height (as long as I keep the Cornelian cherry trimmed). Both are described as at least tolerating dry shade, but I hate to spend money on shrubs and then torture them to death.

If anyone has any experience I would love to hear about it. Or maybe someone has a better idea of an edible that would love this environment which sends lesser plants slinking off in fear?
