have you thought of dehydrating them?

I have pawpaw seeds harvested September 2008 at Perrysburg, OH. I would like to trade for some from a different area. What is the expected germination rate?

I don't know germination rates but I've heard that they shouldn't be allowed to dry out and they need a period of cold stratification in order to germinate.

Germination for PawPaws has been extremely low for me. I planted about 50 seeds last year and only 4 came up. We,charlotte NC, have red clay soils and drought has been an issue. Make sure you place the seeds in an area that doesn't dry out.

I had about 50 % success rate germinating wild paw paw seeds by cold stratifying them in my refrigerator (not freezer). After eating the fruit and washing off the seeds & soaking them for 1/2 day in water I packed zip lock bags with moist peat moss and 10 -20 seeds per bag. After 8 weeks I removed from the fridge & put them some of them in a warm sunny spot like a window sill and others I put on top of the refrigerator. I also heard to never let them dry out. Some germinated rather soon afterward and yet others took as much as 8 -10 weeks but all in all over 50% germinated.
