You might want to re-title your message, it is not specific to OneGreenWorld, or try the more active fruit & orchard forum.

REgarding the SErvice Tree (sorbus) the fruit must be bletted before being eaten. Bletted means that the fruit is allowed to soften to a mushy consistancy before becoming tasty or edible. The fruit are also rather small, from what I've read similar in size to Mt Ash fruit (those bright orange berries).

I have never tried either of the fruit you asked about, though I did just recieve my catalog and saw what you are inquiring about.
