Edible Border (narrow space)

I need a hedge higher than my picket fence (1.2m.) but no higher than 1.7m. Love the idea for an edible garden as it is to screen my front yard for the children to play in. Had thought about passionfruit but not sure if it would work : supports would need to be no higher than 1.2m. The length of the fence is about 1 5metres. Any ideas??

I found to my sorrow that passion fruit will not stay along a fence but will colonize the land on either side too. Just too passionate a nature, I guess. I'd choose high bush blueberries, but don't know if they will grow where you are.

Perhaps a nice hedge of upright rosemary? Can be pruned to height and width desired. Smells fabulous, non toxic, pretty little blue flowers, great for cooking...etc...

Not sure what your zone is by gooseberry, current, can be trimmed. Lavender makes a nice hedge too, though short. Oh and I second blueberries, beautiful.
