WANTED: Seed trade meeting etiquette?

19 years ago

Hi Folks,

IÂve been lucky enough to connect up with McPegÂs Ottawa Seed Trade meeting happening this weekend. Being a newbie to seed trade meetings, IÂm looking for a few pointers from those with experience.

OK, I know that I should:

- bring my seeds with me;

- not wear loud clothing (no orange stripe shirt with green paisley pants);

- show up sober and;

- shower that morning.

Any other pointers from experienced seed trade meeting veterans out there?

Thanks,

Bill (tongue in cheek)

    Too funny!
    Now I'm going to have to shower!

    Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, anyone wanting to bring a camera is welcome but I always ask before taking anyone's photo. It might be nice to post a hello picture to our trading buddies after this event!

    hmmn, don't forget to brush your teeth as well? And, no children who don't know how to behave as it is indoors, i.e.
    no one under 25! I've hired a babysitter for my monsters, as hubby is away, and they don't qualify under the good-behavior-in-public rule for more than 20 minutes. Seriously though, if we do a plant swap later at the farm, it would be fun to bring the offspring (I mean children, not seedlings - well, seedlings too of course). Looking forward to this meet as well.

    Hi Bill,

    I'm bringing my seeds and I thought I should also bring some Ziploc baggies, blank envelopes, paper and a Sharpie marker. I'm bringing one of my dahlia tubers in hopes of getting tips on if I should split it (and how).

    See you later!

    OK,

    Having experienced my first Garden Web seed trade, IÂll post a few guiding principals for others to benefit from.

    DoÂs:

    Get Peggy to coordinate if possible;
    Bring extra envelopes and a pen/marker;
    Have a bite to eat if meeting in a restaurant.

    DonÂt:

    Tell old people at the next table you are all local grow op owners trading cannabis seed;
    Pinch the waiterÂs butt when heÂs serving (bad Kathy!);
    If Peggy is attending, donÂt give her beer punching the waiter was not nice;
    Dine and dash I still feel guilty!

    In all seriousness, thank you all for a great afternoon. Peggy, you did a great job! IÂm still sorting out all the treasures I received.

    Till next time,

    Bill

    My pleasure!

    Thanks to everyone for attending and sharing.
    I think Bill captured the afternoon well...

    well......uhm.....at least I walked out of this restaurant.

    Good thing my bag was on wheels, I did not want to bring much home but I have my work now cut out for me tomorrow!

    Yes, I think we need to meet again to swap plants or share seedy stories with one another!

    I do recall I need to share info regarding the denim jean planters, the brugs web sites and also to note if I ever go to a hydroponics store not to ask if they really sell herbs there!

    Thank you everyone for coming out today. I am sure the waiter would 'love' to have us all again!

    Cheers,
    McPeg

    Hey, what's wrong with trading cannabis seeds? I didn't realize that was an option??
    I add my thanks. I wish I'd been more organized, and not suffering from laryngitis. Would have liked to have been able to talk more.

    Hi:
    I think I can speak for Deborah, LeeAnn, and myself....it was great fun...just like Christmas as someone said! I can hardly wait until June.
    Many thanks to McPeg for organizing it, a job well done.
