Thank you! Appreciate the kind words... The stainless steel vessel sink is made by Kohler. The floating vanity counter/cabinet was something that I custom designed and was made by my cabinetmaker.

Well, the room was only 3' wide, so spanning the width with a counter was a natural choice. Wanted to add just a little bit of storage (for extra hand towels, toilet paper rolls, etc.), so having something about 12" high with the frosted glass doors to somewhat obscure the stored items, but still keep it feeling light visually, (because of the tiny space) became the obvious solution. It's not a complicated project, I'm sure you could have something similar custom made by a local cabinet maker or carpenter. Good luck!

One last question... Is that wenge wood or just stained as dark?

It was made using Alder wood, which is known as being the "great imitator" - it can be stained to look like cherry, walnut, maple, etc. We used a dark, espresso color stain on it, to repeat the shade of dark brown glass strips in the mosaic tile & to provide contrast with the light gray walls.

Is there any concern about water damage to the wood top on the vanity? Are there other alternative tops that would give a similarly clean look that might be more durable? And would it be too cheesy to put a clear glass top over the finished wood to protect it?

Laura,

The wood is protected from water damage by the application of several coats of a water proof sealer/protectant - the same kind used on yachts & boats. This makes it impervious to water - it will bead up if spilled on the surface. That eliminates the need for using a piece of glass over the wood. Any type of material used for counters could be substituted- Caesarstone, Silestone, etc., but those wouldn't give the same warm appearance and feel as wood - still nothing that can copy that!
