I'm not interested in the basjoo (although I am interested in musa varieties that produce edible fruit). I am starting kiwi, lime, sour orange (for citrus rootstock), and I have some mango and avocado that (once they grow just a little more) I'd be willing to take some small cuttings from, if you want to start some from seed to use as the root part of the graft. I also have several other musa starts that I just got, so hopefully by next year I'll have some little ones to share.

I'll bet Patrick would be interested and he is down your way.
He usually has Burgmansias.

I have viente cohol and California gold growing, they are still small. I killed one CaGold last winter by leaving it outside (with mulch) to test it. I don't think CaGold is as hardy as people want to believe, certainly not for PNW. I think dwarf Orinoco is as hardy as CaGold but grows faster (for me). I hope VC will grow and produce in a year as they claim. We'll see. By the way keithruck, where do you live?

I'm in Monroe (actually, just North of Monroe). I'm in the process of building a greenhouse so that all these plants can overwinter there instead of my dining room :) My eventual goal is to plant some of the musa varieties directly in raised beds in the greenhouse, in the hopes of getting them to fruit.

That's quite far from Auburn, I was hoping you're closer so we can be banana buddies:-) A guy from Monroe just finished working on my home security. I thought about doing a greenhouse like that too, that's the best way to grow them around here. Send us some pictures when you are done..please.

And I haven't found the brugmansias sufficiently hardy to leave out in the winter. I've had a few come back from the roots after a mild winter, but only my in-ground B. sanguinea survived last winter. Besides, in this climate they take so long to regrow, we get only a very short blooming season. I prefer to grow them in pots and overwinter them in my garage.

Patrick when are you gonna come up this way again? I have a red-striped banana to divide up, plus some really cool brugmansia and iochromas you might be interested in.
