OT Easter

Tomorrow my three little DGS will be here. I will get a picture or two to post of them in action.

The older of the three (4 years old) will have to be noted since his dad found him industriously hitting a large budded out rose bush with a stick. When asked to explain himself, he very logically replied that he was hitting the thorn bush. What else. I have lot's of thorn bushes and other plants I don't want stomped, so caution is in order when they are set loose in the yard.

Kid logic is very interesting when you stop and ask questions isn't it? My son once was asking about the baby fish in the aquarium and I told him they were mollies. When he asked which were mollies and I told him they were the little black ones his reply was "Don't you mean african aquarium?" I think he was about 6 or 7 at the time.

Kids can be destructive if they not taught at a early age, what they can do, and what they can not do. A few years ago, the next door neighbor had some company come to visit them and brought 2 boys with them that looked to be arounr 7 to 9 yrs old.Their parents wemt in to vist and left the kids outside to do whatever they wanted to do. I walked up to my kitchen sink for something, and had my window open that day, over the sink, and I heard a lot of noise and looked out my window snd them 2 boys, one with a baseball bat, the other with a long stick he had taken out of a pot I had in the yard, and they were standing there, beating my roses to pieces, breaking limbs and knocking the blooms off. I was boiling in less then a second,as one of them was my most prized rose bush, loaded with huge blooms. I yelled at them and told them to get out of my flower bed before i come out there and use that bat on their head.well, they went in the house and I expected the mother of them to come outside, to see what was going on, but she never did come out. and I went out and gathered up the bat and my stick that belonged in my pot.I have since lost my rose bush I loved so much and have never found another one

Happy Easter from northeast Texas. It doesn't look like Edward's part of the continent. Jean, I am wondering what rose you lost. Maybe someone on the Forum has the same one, and could help you get another. Here are a few pictures from our place.

This is the China rose Napoleon. It is a huge bush growing in what we call the "Swimming Pool Garden". (This used to be a swimming pool that we had filled in.)

This is a pic of the rose Napoleon. It is a two-toned pink with a light fragrance. I wonder if Kay has this one.

The plant growing underneath the roses is a calibrachoa--also called Million Bells by some. I planted this in 2003 thinking it would only last the summer. Surprise, it thrived and spread nearly halfway across the Swimming Pool Garden. Last summer's drought nearly killed it, but we still have patches left, and we think it will come back.

Belinda's Dream shrub rose does wonderfully well here. We have one large bush, and two smaller ones from cuttings last year.

Once again, Happy Easter, and Happy Gardening.

WEll, I can understand his logic, it probably bit him first, I know enough about roses to know that. I've been tempted to hit them too when they poke me.
I'm sorry about your rose bush, Jean. Kids can be destructive when they aren't taught better. Hopefully, the boys learned a lesson from you.
Gosh, is that snow, Edward? Cooler temps here than what it has been, but it is a beautiful day right now, will be in the 70's in another hour or so. They predicted clouds, no rain, just an overcast day, but the sun is shining & a perfectly gorgeous Easter morning.
    HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE!

No snow here, thank goodness. It is a lovely sunny spring day.

    Happy Easter everyone!

Happy Easter. Great day here in the Finger Lakes. Sun shining, rather windy but our temps are in the 50's.

Edward, you are teasing us, right?

    Avedon, LOVE the pics.

    Oh my. Snow still Edward?

Avedon, I do not have Napoleon, but it is one that I need. Oddly enough, while I majored in math in college, I minored in history, and I especially loved (and took several courses in The French Revolution and Napoleon). I know, wound up an RN, but that's a whole 'nother story. Anyway, I am very happy with the way Chinas grow here. That is a nice plant for the Rose's feet, and Belinda finally woke up and started blooming here too.

It never fails...I should never have allowed them in the new rose areas since he appeared to have erased Omoshira...I planted it deep, however, so it will probably reemerge.

I am glad that alsomst all of us seem to be having decent weather.

No teasing. That was this morning's snow. On the bright side most has melted from the front yard. The back yard still has some.

The snow didn't last long. It was gone by mid day on Monday. Here are a couple blooms from today. My new camera captures the colours much better.

Hi Edward_Kimball - Whatever camera you used to capture such clear color, I want!

Those photographs are beautiful, Edward. And Here I was feeling sorry for you because you had snow. A lovely Dutch iris, and whatever the little blue blooms are are achingly lovely too.

The second shot is a mini crocus. The iris is a Dwarf Iris, not a Dutch Iris. It is Iris Reticulata.

Here is a link that might be useful: Dwarf irises

Of course, I should have known if it grew so beautifully for you, it would not grow well here. Your photographs are really excellent both in quality and in composition.

Could we know the name of your camera, Ed?

    Pentax K100D and I was using a SMC Pentax-M 100mm f/4
    Macro lens.
