What colors should I paint?

I have recently purchased a cabin and want a cozy feel for it. I am on a very strict budget so can't afford to do a total remodel. Was thinking some paint, and new window coverings might just be the way to go. The beams, walls, and blinds right now are all white. I want to change the color of all! I also want to paint the cabinets and freshen them up. So, what should I do? Please advise on colors and types of window coverings you think would look good:)

lol.. yes bobbi. back in the before time before central heat and air people had gas heaters.. in everyroom. fireplaces often were built to contain them. People still have to use them in older homes that havent had major updates. I guess in other areas of the country people had furnances in their basements and had to fill them with oil and crap.

They are actually very effiecent and heat extremely well. Thing is they can be very unsitely. One house i lived in there was always a day in Oct we would drag them out and them hope we choice the right day in March to hide them away again.

I would start with that brick fireplace. Pull out a grey, a light brownish and even an orange to start considering colors that you like and could work. Maybe do something funky like a neutral (but not white) walls and paint the beams a burnt orange or rich brown. Hope that gets the discussion started...

Here is something "funky" you could do to the "potbelly stove". You can look online or find a great auto parts store are look at engine paint. It ranges from normal colors to fluorescents to glitter to metallics. (also a good way update Dearborns)

Find paint that matches the rustiest color in the brick and it should go with the green you're thinking of for the cabinets.

You could calm down the brick with a very diluted wash of white emulsion to give a more aged look. Walls pale nutmeg, (Dulux). Cushions in velvet, pale apricots and donkey browns. Roman blinds in cream silk. Ceiling wood and beams, paint all white or cream to make the room airier. Alternatively go for the New England palette of delicious blues. Some big pictures with blending colours. The sofa is a great start.

I say no to matching the brick. I say do the rest then make the brick match that. The brick isnt attractive.

Larry, I still don't know what that is!!!! Is it some kind of a heater?
