Looks like a lot of water!! Is this picture taken quite close to your home? Do you have to take detours in order to get to work?

Our spring runoff happened a few weeks ago with some country roads closed. I had to take a detour of a few miles in order to get into town. Everything is open again and my yard could use some rain already. It sure needs a good wash. Can I have some of your water, Shelley?

My garden is no longer underwater. But I wouldn't want to walk in it yet. I'd probably sink to my rump.
I live 3 blocks from work so driving isn't an issue for me. But a creek runs through town and actually under the building that I work in. The cement is really starting to bow in one area. They have put welded pieces of sheet metal over this area. They believe that the culverts have rusted and it is washing the ground away.
Tonight we went for a drive and went past this farmers place that was in a really low area (About 10 minutes from home) . The water was just about up to his house. He was using a boat to get into his yard. The vehicles were parked on the highway.(This is the same area that the car floated off the highway)
At a lake 30 min from home the cabins are under water.
Last week one of the fellows that I work with was driving home from work when his truck broke through the road. He was hung up on the front bumper and underneath behind his front tires.
I've heard as well that the worst is yet to come. A lot of the northern water comes our way on it's travel to the Saskatchewan river.
Hopefully they are wrong.

Oh my! That rushing river over that road makes the water that went over our road earlier this spring look like a little trickle. Our road was only closed for 2 days, but it looks like they'll need a 4x4 to cross that road when the water stops. Glad to hear that you don't have any standing water in your gardens Shelley. Let's keep it that way, ok?!

And here we're grumbling because the roads are muddy and rutted! At least we can still use them. My grandparents' farm was in a loop of the Sturgeon River, a bit north of Edmonton. They used to travel by boat every spring until the highway got built up. I think I'm glad for a change that there aren't any river, lakes, etc. anywhere near our place.

They actually dug the road out. You can barely make out the pile of dirt on the left side of the picture. I heard today at work 134 roads have been closed in our RM. Whether that is true or not I can't say. I'm not going to go count.

Shelley, I was watching the news last night about the spring run offs in Saskatchewan, are you north/east in Sask?

And here where I live I am so happy when I see water in the ditches.

Sharon, I'm about 100 miles east of Saskatoon. I heard more bad news today. Four guys from a town next to us decided to go canoing yesterday in the creek. One of the canoes tipped. One of the guys surfaced and is well,but the other one's body hasn't been found. Crappier yet for us is that he is DH first cousin. My MIL is not home otherwise we would have heard yesterday. Sometimes fun- isn't.

Our spring runoff is mostly done now. Is your flooding because of that extra heavy snow you got recently?

I've been told that we live in a basin. Water runs this way before it travels on to the river and lakes.

They still haven't found Blair's body. Tomorrow they are bringing in divers from Manitoba. I feel so sorry for his wife and 2 little kids. And also the rest of his immediate family.

Oh dear, that is so sad Shelley. My deepest sympathies too.

They found Blair's body tonight just before 8 pm. It wasn't the divers that found him though. They brought in a backhoe and put a hook on the end. It snagged his clothes.
At least part of the stress is over for the family. Now to deal with the rest.
