Interesting you are seeing so much black. Most of what I am seeing is stainless steel...a blight visited on the hapless consumer. At least with black someone is making a statement, albeit a bad one for certain situations. I did an entire kitchen in black with mirror and recessed lighting and it was beyond sublime. So, it matters what the intention is and what you can relate to. You will always find so many people who will copy whatever is popular simply because the majority has decided to give "it" a blessing of approval. Someone said a long time ago, "When you don't agree with the masses, then perhaps you are on the right path", ....or something to that effect. :)

I agree, black is a difficult appliance color to pull off unless you have just the right setting for it. I think the attraction towards stainless appliances is that they never go out of style and it works well with a types of cabinet finishes. Stainless appliances are timeless and, like granite countertops, are high on the list of things to look for when purchasing a new home. White appliance can be great too but, like black appliances, they need the right settings to really make them look right. In my experiences the white looks best in cottage style homes if you are also using white cabinetry otherwise I would recommend stainless just for the versatility.
