HAVE: Winter Sowing Group Swap

For the first time, I will be hosting a winter sowing swap. I know that the wintersowing forum does a swap, but it is limited to those in the US. For this swap, any seeds that need stratification, should be sowed in the fall, sowed in situ (on top of snow like poppies) or can be wintersowed are welcome. If anyone is interested, please leave your name and email, I will contact you when the swap starts. I will also post here in case anyone missed this message. The swap will take place in November

For now, I would like to set the date of Nov 2 (Friday) to be the deadline as to when I get all the seeds, so the latest you should expect to mail them is October 29th (Monday) If anyone has any concerns, please email me or post here

bumping this up so others will see it if they want to join in!!!
This is a great way to get new flowers you never would have thought to try!

Please add me to the list. Thanks!

    RULES:

Any seeds and all seeds that can be wintersowed, need a cold period (stratification) or need to be sown in fall are welcome!

Please mark all packages clearly. Common names are suffice, and botanical (latin) names are optional but I recommend them. Please print instead of handwriting the names (printing as in individual letters instead of cursive)

Please limit to no more than 5 packets of the same variety of seed (5 per cultiver to be more exact) Example: 5 packets of fordhook swiss chard and 5 packets of bright lite swiss chard, but not 10 packets of fordhook)

Please try to have at least 20 seeds per packet, more if they are small (like poppy seeds) or few if they are more rare or large seeds (like cannas) Include a packet of seeds that you would be happy receiving. As a broad rule, include enough seeds so that if one try fails, another can be made.

Please NO weeds seeds. I understand some of us consider some weeds and invasive plants a part of our garden, but please use common sense. Nothing like purple loosestrife, or ragweed

Please include a WISH LIST of what you want and I will try to give you those on your list if they appear in the envelopes

Before you send you package of seeds, please make sure you have the following in the package:

-a return bubble envelope (I can reuse the one that you send the seeds in)

-sufficient return postage (the last swap I did, there were some people who sent only one .51 stamp...I'm not being stingy, but I don't usually mail things, and I have to run out to buy a few cents in stamps, it can get annoying sometimes!) Besides if it comes back to me, it's going to take even longer to get back to you!

    -wishlist

    -seeds

    -return address label

Again: I need to get all the seeds by Nov 2, you can mail them any time but the latest should be Oct 29 (I will post a reminder on the 25th) You are welcome to send the seeds earlier if you would like! Have Fun!

I was going to try WS for the first time this winter, so count me in, too. thanks!

In all there are about 20 people in this swap as of today. please send me an email when you have time and I'll send you my address. There's still two months till the swap I'll bring this topic up every now and then

I'd love to get in on this too!

Im so excited about this seed swap. This is my first swap ever and I was outside taking inventory today and Im stoked but worried as Im not sure that many if any of my seeds will be mature for harvesting before I need to send them. Almost everything has just started making me seeds or is still blooming. This summer was so slow to start and is still so warm 28 degrees today. I dont think I am going to make the end of sept deadline.

ok that message was meant for the fall swap thread not the winter swap, oopps

Kenny, please send me your address and I'll mail the seeds.

    Thanks....Heather

just a reminder that this swap deadline is Nov. 1 I would appreciate if people in both swaps could hold on to thei seeds for this one, so I can finsih off the one for October. If not, I can hold the seeds for you, but I will not be mixing in the seeds for this swap with teh other one...just a quick thought...no biggie...thanks for everyone's participation and have fun!

Just bumping this thread up, so people who didn't get into the other group swap but are still interested can join in.
Kenny I'm goign to wait till after we've moved to send you these seeds, and seeing as the length of time it's taking you to get my other pkg I'm going to express post it to you!

Wanted to bump this up again in the hopes others will join in, the Fall Swap has been such a success, and Kenny's deadline to receive seeds for this swap is not until November 1st. If you have seeds to trade but are unsure if they can be winter sown here is the link to the wintersowing organization lists of plants that can be winter sown by zone. http://www.wintersown.org/wseo1/Seed_Lists.html

Here is a link that might be useful: Winter Sowing Organization Seed Lists

For anyone who hasn't sent out their pkg yet, Kenny mentioned in the fall swap thread for people to put their "screen name" on the pkg so he can keep track better!

I'd like to participate, too! Kenny, please, send me your address to marina12@rogers.com.
I'd like to ad to your rules: please, indicate on the package - annual or perennial plant for it makes a big difference.

    Hi Kenny,
I sent you my seed package today. Thanks again for coordinating. Heather

Just realized that time is flying. I guess I need to get moving and get these seeds in the mail! :)

I posted my request about participation two weeks ago , but didn't get answer yet. I'm not able to change my e-mail address in Forum profile, that's why I wrote my new e-address in the post (marina12@rogers.com). If it's not late yet, please, e-mail me address where to send seeds.

I haven't been on lately because of some family problems, but the swap will go on as planned without delay I've already started receiving envelopes

    Sent seeds 29/10/7 Monday

Hey Kenny I'm going to have to back out of this group swap. I have absolutly no clue where my gardenign stuff is, this room is still filled with unopened boxes....
Maybe if you do another group swap this winter... Or I'll just do individual trades.
Everyone enjoy it, this is a blast!!!

Kenny, have you received my seeds? I sent them on Monday.
