I heard on the weather this morning that 30 cm was expected there and was thinking about you, Ian. Our snow is gone again and there's none forecast for the foreseeable future. We've had four days now where the highs have been in the +5 - +8 range - i guess this is our Indian summer. I did have the leaves raked but there are a lot more on the back lawn and i could rake again if i was so inclined - don't know if i will be, though! :)

Wow Ian that's a nice welcome to winter isn't it! Hope you can stay in and drink some hot chocolate.

The weatherÂs clearing up.
The piles by the driveway are higher than all last winter.
For some reason IÂm a bit sore.
I think that a hot bath is in order.

A neighbor said that there was a bear up his crabapple tree early this morning.
I saw it take off but I didnÂt get a good look at it.

About the hot chocolate, thatÂs one of the things the doctor says that I should give up.
Maybe I should give up doctors instead.

That's a lot of snow! My DH is so jealous! He just bought a newer snowmobile, and is dying to try it out. I just finished covering the roses and tree peonies for the winter, so I think I'm ready if it does snow. Our forecast isn't looking too great for next week. Some of the daytime highs won't even be above freezing. Yikes!

Light snow here today but nothing like what you got Ian. I think it looks so pretty, as long as it's not brutally cold, I don't mind the snow at all.
Your doctor doesn't know what he's talking about, I like to see him tell that to a woman ;)

Laurie, oh how fun, a new snowmobile. DH keeps on saying he'd like to buy one someday.

We have probably have about 20-25cm of snow now with another 5-10cm expected over night. We probably have now more snow than what we all of last winter. I really like to see it as it gives extra insulation for my perennials and will winter better. I still have to cover a couple of roses and then wrap them in burlap so they will bloom better next year as one blooms on old wood and the other is a bit tender. I tried some snow pansies this year so it is nice to see them covered with snow early, which should help them come through the winter better. It also creates work!!!

It should make for a great kick off for the ski season.
The ski hill now has 45 cm of base.
I have to get a new pair of skis this winter. I already have the seasons pass.

Still it would have been nice if it could have held off until after Halloween.
Halloween is usually when we get the first snow that sticks.

Here we have only had the briefest of power outages.
Cable was out for a good part of the day though.
A lot of businesses didnÂt bother opening yesterday.
I saw a number of people clearing snow from their shed roofs.

I donÂt usually listen to local radio so I am not up to date. The local paper is weekly only.

Today is beautiful and sunny. I will have to dig my way into the shed to get a few things.

Oh you are making me jealous! At least if it's going to be cold it should be pretty. But no, we end up with and inch or 3 of snow that turns muddy and doesn't hide all the trimming I should have done! Plus WIND and temps that won't rise above freezing for half a week (can you tell what my forecast calls for? LOL)

We got about 4" a few days ago but its started again Tuesday night and hasn't let up. We must have a foot by now, but the forcast is 60% til Sunday night! It is beautiful snow though, very light and fluffy coming down in huge flakes with no wind.

I'd heard through the grapevine that Burns Lake really got a pile (I'd heard a metre?) and a friend phoned this morning and said Valleyview had a couple feet. Yikes.

We woke up to -21C on Sunday. Talk about a rude awakening. Its warmed up now and this morning was only
-9C, that should keep the snow from getting messy.

I just got back from the mine I work at.
At home the snowfall just meant lots of exercise from digging.

The mine lost grid power for two days (they have emergency generators.) They got 48cm snow in 12 hours and over a meter in total. The crew that was there for the snowfall described the experience as a gong show!
The crew bus in got stuck twice and eventually got there two and half-hours late.
There were lots of moose on the road. They didnÂt want to go into the deep snow. The bus followed one for several kilometers before it turned off.
I heard lots of stories. Lots of people on acerages lost power for several days. Some hunters were stuck in the bush but the plow that attempted to reach them had to turn back because of too many downed trees.

Tonight I gave a fellow a hand digging out his car from a couple of feet of snow. When he went into work there was no snow and he was totally unprepared.

Crazy! I was wondering if the trees were ready for this system or not. They've been ok here because we've had cool temps for awhle, and I guess the snow is light enough. Updated forcast now says snow till Wednesday!

Garden Chicken, Its way too early in the winter to get down about the weather, eh? Here's another positive for you...we've had minimal to nil snow cover the last three years, so my perennials and the hay fields will be grateful for this early pile up!

Goes to show you how easily nature can throw you for a loop...talking with a neighbor during the beautiful mild weather before this system about how our winters have been so mild for a few years now and maybe it will be a long term thing and how we should be rethinking our feeding/grazing schedule for the cattle if its going to be this way for awhile. Meaning we'd graze longer and feed less. HA! Well, we had lots of grass and uncut forage to graze this fall, but apparently nature would have it otherwise! I guess this is why the weather preoccupies us so much...one can never figure it out.
