Oh MeMo, you crack me up!
Unfortunately I spent all my money on the wonderful Bluestone sale you told us about.

At least my menu for June is now an easy one:
    Sunday PB&J
    Monday PB&J
    Tuesday PB&J
    Wednesday PB&J
    Thursday PB&J
    Friday PB&J
    Saturday PB&J
    Repeat as needed.

LOL Patti! I haven't ordered from either of them. I hit all the local nursery's this past week and then realized I'm now overdrawn on my bank account for the second month in a row. God they love collecting those fees from me. But my garden has never looked better...do you think they'd take payment in pretty posie pictures?

You're a bad girl, MeMo, enabling us like this. ; ) My bank account won't be overdrawn but I can assure you my MC will take a hit. : )

Patti, too funny. I actually lived on PB&J for about a week back in my twenties. I was between jobs, funds were low and I didn't want to ask my parents for help so PB&J it was. Thankfully I had two different kinds of jelly and a bag of Fritos, if I remember correctly. Not bad for awhile but I was sure ready for an burger by the time my paycheck arrived. ; )

Only one day remaining. I placed my order for a big handful of seeds for August planting to get ready for fall transplants: mostly snaps, Iceland poppies and violas. Oh, and nasturtiums for next spring.

Thanks, Memo, for pointing the way to this sale.

Nell, I'm glad you were able to take advantage of it. I sooo envy those of you who can garden in the fall and into winter! I need to get my greenhouse up (sitting in boxes for a year now!) so I can make another attempt at growing seeds in this frigid zone. I would LOVE to be able to do mass plantings of various things around this place as you have so successfully done in your gardens. I hope you get great germination of your seeds!

Oh, Memo, you will enjoy a greenhouse! We put together a Harbor Freight GH after Christmas, really fun project. The big deal here isn't heating a greenhouse, it's cooling, even when the weather is 'cold' here, the sun heats it up in a hurry! It's a seasonal thing here unless you're trying to grow orchids and other tender tropicals, which is beyond the scope of my gardening skills and budget.

Before the greenhouse, I did my own version of 'winter sowing.' We can't put little covered containers outside, they might cook. I had open containers on an old kitchen utility cart and trundled them in and out of the tool shed to the sun and back. I grew seedlings and cuttings in the laundry room window -- you can start lots of tiny plants on a little counter.

The mass plantings are mostly scattered seeds -- California poppies, corn poppies, rudbeckia, melampodium, periwinkles, catchfly, Laura Bush petunias, zinnias -- all those are scattered, not transplants. You just scatter at a different time than we do.

Thanks again for the T&M link. I'm on their mailing list now.

I watched your progress of the building of your greenhouse from the GH forum. I considered a HFGH for a while but in the end I knew it would be difficult to get DH to commit that much time to putting it together. Especially with all the needed additional reiforcement. I ended up deciding on a hoophouse. I ordered a thermal swimming pool cover large enough to cover it twice. Had rebar cut. Have all the brackets etc etc. I had hoped to put it up early spring but chores around here are just too much at that time of year so I ended up making new beds, mulching those I have, planting some things and putting up the much needed fencing. I'll be working on making a patio next and come early fall we'll plant our grass seed (it's gotten too late again this spring for seeding) and hopefully put the hoophouse together. I don't plan on heating mine either, I'd just like to extend the season a bit for cool crop vegies and hopefully for seed starting in the spring. If it goes well for a couple of years then we may consider heating it with propane. I hope it all goes as planned.

I have scattered dozens and dozens of seed packets and have only gotten three to take. Zinnas, 4 o'clocks and sweet peas. I keep trying. Winter sowing has never worked here for me. I gave up on it!
