Marg, I also have been growing these in containers, 'Blue Satin' amd 'Lavender Chiffon'. I had started with small plants in four inch pots and they both gave a few blooms the next summer. Last year I set them directly in the gound and they flowered heavily in late summer, though Blue Satin was a bit too late in producing its blooms.

Thanks Terry. Maybe my purple ones will flower this year. I also recieved some white/white with red eye seeds in a trade. I started 2 pots of those. Maybe in a few years I will have lots of them growing. Do yours overwinter outside? Do you mulch them? Marg

I have two started from seed from a bush growing in Southern Ontario. I planted them in clay pots and put them in a sheltered part of the garden. I haven't had a lot of success bringing in plants for the winter so I mulched them and left them in the garden. I'll let you know if I have them this spring. :)

Marg, the Lavender Chiffon, I had dug up and stored in the coldroom, I will keep doing so with this plant ... Blue Satin will be dead above the snowline and I really don't care, as again this one is just too late in flowering ...

I just uncovered my rose of sharons. The stems are green. No other signs of life.
