I don't keep my seeds in a fridge. I just keep them in a plastic container at room temp. Mostly in the basement where it is slightly cooler, but not as cold as a fridge. The seed seems fine for a few years but the older it gets the less you can expect germination. I don't see any reason to put them in the fridge.

We have a spare fridge in the mudroom for DH beer and my seeds/cold stratifying seeds.

I've stored them this way for years with no problems. As long as the seed is properly dried before storing they will be fine in the refrigerator. If the seed is moist they will go moldy.

Maybe she meant freezer, not all seeds should be stored in the freezer, but some can, I do store my lily seeds in the freezer with no problem.

Thanks guys, I don't think she meant freezer. But I think I will move them to the fridge. Maybe I will be able to keep them all in one spot and not have to hunt for them when it comes time to plant. Cheryl

What I have read on the suject agrees with Sharon. In fact, cool temps and dry seeds should keep for many years with only a few exceptions. Parsnip seeds seem to be the least stable

Cool and dry is the rule for storing seeds, and most seeds will store fine in a dry basement for multiple years this way. The fridge should be even better, but my one worry would be that fridges tend to be quite humid, so unless that was controlled then you would probably be better off in a dry basement.

Fresh seed is always more vigorous than old seed, so for most seeds for my veggie/flower garden I don't keep them for more than three years -- even though they might still germinate for many more years, the loss of vigour in the young plant makes it not worth it to me. Some seeds like onions and parsnips are poor keepers and fresh seed should be used each year.
