You could also go to the Canadian Exchange Forum and see if someone there has seeds you'd like. And you could go to online plant and seed stores (Vesey's, Dominion Seed House, etc.) and order from them.

I'm a newbie as far as trading and don't have that part of my act together yet. But I heard about ValueSeeds.com on this forum and their prices are only 49-99 cents and shipping is 99 cents, regardless of the size of your order. That's about the least expensive I've found and quanities seemed generous to me. Enough for everybody in the family to have some to plant!

I frequently get excited about sites mentioned here that won't ship to AK and I just sit and drool. Many companies in the US won't ship here either and we ARE the US. It's like No Man's land. I get my best items from ebayers in Canada. Soon, I'll be able to trade here.

Some of my Value seeds will be larger quantities than I need (but the price was right). When they arrive, I'll let you know and will be happy to send you my extras.

Ahhhhh Valueseeds! I have drooled over that website for a while now, lol. I wish they would ship to Canada, I'd love to get some bargains like that. They have the cutest little viola there that I would love to get my hands on - Viola sororia "Freckles".

Barbara, I've always wondered about that. Why don't companies ever seem to ship to Alaska and Hawaii? Weird... is it because the shipping costs are too high?

Extra shipping cost is usually the reason. Many companies charge the extra and that took getting used to, but is part of life up here. The frustration is when there is no option and you can't get what you want, even if you are willing to pay. Seeds are fairly easy, but live plants are out of the question and tubers/bulbs are iffy. Choices are limited up here and I always want what I can't get here, so last year I kept certain ebay sellers in business. I GOT my dahlia tubers and lily bulbs! Hopefully, this forum will be a nice "other option".
Santa in the North Pole was going to add a pack of Freckles to my order, but I don't see them listed on Value. They are down to 10 pages. Am guessing they are no longer available.

Rick, You should check out the dollar store in your area. They have seeds 3 packs for a dollar. They also give generous amounts in these packets. A good way to stock up on basics like snaps, sweet wiliam, rudbeckia and such. Don't worry about older seeds.......there are only a few that have to be sown the year they are harvested. For example I sowed lupin seed this year that I purchased in 2002. 100% germination......I sowed a few extras just in case and ended up having to thin them.

You can check germination of seed by putting a small amount on a wet paper towel...put in a zip lock bag and place on top of fridge or in a warm spot.....check in a few days to see if they germinate.

Another on-line place to check out is Beautiful Blooms. They have a clearance section where they're selling a bunch of different seeds for 50 cents a pack.

I've never ordered from them, but I've heard good things about them. Not sure what the shipping charges are, but they are a Canadian company. I'll post the link below.

Barbara, I think that you and Santa are very sweet. Thanks for trying! Valueseeds.com is affiliated with Thompson and Morgan. T&M uses this website to clear out all their overstock. I'll have to watch the seed racks here and see if I can find them locally.

Sierra: Thank you for the advice, unfortunately I live in a remote hamlet in northern quebec where there is no dollar store, no canadian tire, no zellers or any other chain store. Here, there are only small corner type stores and a couple of general stores that sell basic groceries to green prarie boots. 2l of milk will cost you $5.69 . This is the true north strong and free (except for the cost of living ). When I do get a chance to get into the nearest city, which is 426 miles away, I love going to the dollar store(which is Dollarama, a quebec chain) however, I did not see any seeds for sale in the gardening section. By the way, did I tell you that there is no road to Blanc Sablon. You have to take a boat or a plane. Thanks for the interest.
