Didn't we have spring in January?LOL Looking out the window today, you'd say winter has finally just come! VERY windy and snowy here. After going through the warmest January on record, I'd say it's fairly safe to say we would have an early spring...........wait a minute, what am I saying, I live in Manitoba!! You just never quite know what could happen here.........cue in the music from the Twilight Zone now ;0)

From a normal perspective, this has been a fantastic winter and I would love a nice, warm, early spring. We haven't even had any ice on our sidewalks so I haven't had to worry at all about falling this year. I hope all the plants are enjoying this, too. Maybe I should have planted some palm trees last fall. lol. If this continues from year to year, I could easily get away with having a wisteria surviving in my yard. I'm getting a bit concerned, though, about our lack of moisture around here but as we all know, things could change in a heartbeat.

LOL Marcia, I too question this whole Groundhog Day thing.

I mean, how do they know for sure if the Groundhog saw his shadow? Does he only see his shadow if it's a sunny day?

Maybe this Groundhog legend is meant for warmer zones. If we did get six more weeks of winter, what's wrong with that? That would mean the snow melts in mid March, instead of the usual end of March.

Plus, If the Groundhog in Wiarton, ON predicts an early spring, does this mean for the entire country?

Questions, questions.

Personally, I find this weather a bit odd, usually it seems we get stuck in these bad weather spells, not good weather.

Yeah, let's not look gift weather in the mouth! LOL And i hope Environment Canada is right about things being above normal for the next three months but i'd even take some cold weather now in trade for a decent May and June.

Is there a western groundhog that does predictions? Haven't heard from it, if there is!

Right now I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas, I can hardly wait! IÂll have to book my month holiday soon at work, I figure May long-weekend right up till June 21st!

Balzac Billy. the Alberta rodent, called for an early spring today as did Shubenacadie Sam from Nova Scotia and Wiarton Willie in Ontario.

Punxsutawney Phil is the American groundhog and he apparently saw his shadow and scurried for cover.

Too funny folks! :) I personally think it was never a groundhogs idea to say anything, no, I always just knew that it was some idea of some poor cooped up winter crazed person who thought a town gathering would be a good get together and made the whole thing up :) But hey, anything for a party right? And I would wonder too, did they start then to exchange plants and seeds at the time? LOL
But, you know, this year,late January I had a spider outside of my home making a new web!!! It was just outside of my window :) Now I am sure this spider was saying that winter was all but over :) and he/she wanted dinner or something.
I haven't seen that spider since we had the last winter storm here in the Thunder Bay area two weeks ago though ;) Wonder what he/she is saying now?? LOL
