Thank you everyone for all the info you are posting on the site. I've learned so much about figs, it's amazing. Eventhough I've loved figs since I was very young and I'm into organic gardening, I never thought of starting my own trees till recently. So far I have a few cuttings right now that I got from my neighbor. They now have some three or four inch leaves and I'm going to put them in one gallon containers. When my neighbor bought the house she said the previous owners who were Italian had this tree in the front yard and she never knew what it was. She said for the first few years when it would fruit, she would think it was some sort of poisonous plant because all this stuff would drip from the fruit (syrupy sap). So she would prune it back all the way to the main branches but it just kept coming back every year, until someone told her it was a fig tree. I was so amazed by this story of how the tree was so healthy looking dispite being pruned back so aggressivly. In any case, this tree is super healthy looking more like a cross between a tree and a very large buch. The figs are large almost the size of a golf ball, green and pink on the inside. If anyone knows what this variety might be I would love to know. We are in CT zone 6. Also I have a few of these cuttings if someone would like to trade. I'm interested in anything sweet like the French Bourdeux or Noir I've heard so much great stuff about. I'm planning of keeping them in containers and moving them in the garage in the winter.
