I think Million Bells and Bacopa would look lovely in that. I would definitely put plants that hang in it. What might also look nice are Fuchsias and Ivy. Or if you are going to have it hanging near a sitting area or door what about things that are scented? Than the plants are right at nose level. Jasmine, Thyme, Sage, and Oregano might be plants to consider.

I've been eyeing that, too, Marcia. Might be easier to just go get that than to hypertufa my disintegrating strawberry pot. It reminds me of my large strawberry pot, which I fill every year with double petunias and I think it looks great. But, I do agree, it would probably look good hanging.

What about foliage hanging plants, like Dichondra or several different kinds of greenery?

Hey, i never thought of it as a strawberry pot! It would be better than mine (i had nasturtiums in it last year) because the openings in mine aren't "cupped" enough.

Anyway, something traily is definitely in store for it because i'd like something to cover the colour - i really don't care for it that much. Different coloured bacopa would be nice. I'm planning on a lot of million bells in another setting, so i had ruled them out already. Lots of greenery is a thought too, maybe with touches of something colourful.

Syreeta, i've never been able to get fuchsia to do anything for me! :( One summer it was going along great and i was starting to feel optimistic, but it suddenly got infested with spider mites. Very sad...

Marcia.....fuchsias need a little babying but once you set your mind to it they really arn't that difficult to keep happy. They are heavy feeders....they need to be fertilized twice a week..and every once in a while add iron to the fertilizer as well...they also have to be soaked in pails or watered from the bottom.....no water can touch their leaves. Since fuchsias are one of my very favorites....get babied big time here. LOL!!! I won't do this for other plants!

For your planter how 'bout somethin' like blue verbena and cherry waves.....and a few tagetes (yellow)

or pansy's and hanging lobelia.

or in shade...pendula begonias.

ohhhhhhhh the possibilites are endless.

Terra Cotta Million Bells would blend nicely with the pot colour.

I was eyeing that up in the Lee Valley Catalogue too! ;-) Very cool either hanging or on the ground. I agree it's kind of a funny colour... why not spray paint it? I'm sure something would stick, either Tremclad, or car touch-up paint (this stuff is magic and comes in many colours!). I love the idea that it is like a pocket planter but easy to plant and each pot has its own soil space. It did make me wish they offered a larger version tho.

I think wave petunias would be nice. Or what about trailing pelargonium, or trailing snapdragons? Maybe some Twinkle Mix phlox (a person fave), it's more creeping than trailing but might be nice. Or if you're not fixed on full sun, perhaps some trailing begonias?

You can buy spray paint that is specifically designed to for plastic. I think most people have bought it to redo either plastic table/chairs sets or pots. I think it takes quite a few cans to cover things but maybe a pot wouldn't be too bad.

Sierra, I've never heard that you should water Fuchsias from the bottom. I've never had any problems with mine and I water them normally. Plus I know that most times my water hits the leaves and they seem fine.

Hi Syreeta,

Fuchsias are pron to scorch, and mold spots and yellowing on the leaves when not properly looked after.....they will also drop their leaves if not happy and when this stuff happens spider mites and aphids are also not uncommon. Some fuchsias will tolerate more sun than others as well. Also if you have hard water...it will leave awful white streaks and spots on the plants when watered from the top.

If you have never seen this...then you are very lucky!!! :-)

I was thinking about painting it, but i don't know if i will or not. Maybe if there's a sale on that stick-to-plastic paint (i've seen it - can't remember what it's called)! Would it matter if i painted the inside? I always worry about that kind of thing, whether or not it would be toxic to plants.

Pudge, yes - terra cotta million bells! LOL To me, it does ask for something yellow, and the blue suggestions would look good too. There must be time for me to order blue wave petunias, eh? (Eek! My Veseys order was scary enough! LOL)

Thanks, Sierra, for the tips on fuchsias. I'll probably try them again. What am i saying?? Of course i will! A fellow at a nursery once told me to mist them often. I was doing that the year the spider mites struck. Maybe he wasn't right?

First thing I thought of was strawberries too. How about nemesia? That would look nice, and quite a few colours to choose from. Lots of other great suggestions here too. Hmmmm, maybe you should order more of those pots too while you're at it, lol.

Marcia....spider mites are usually around plants that are dry....that is probably why you were told to mist your fuchsia. This is probably good to get rid of spider mites but not so good for your fuchsia.

Which reminds me...my fuchsia stand needs to be fixed this year before I add the planters....always something to add to the list isn't there......

I planted lots of nemesia last year in planters....it was bright and colorful all season!

Oh yes - nemesia! I had some in with the osteos last year, and it was really pretty. Sundrops, i think. I've also had Bluebird and Compact Innocense before.

Now, wouldn't that container be cute if i tried one of every suggestion in it? LOL After all, it has 9 parts!
