This is a can of worms for me :)

I don't seem to have a favorite. I just like lots of color. Vivid and vibrant colors. The more color the garden has the more I like it.

I like a lot of colors, but you will notice a lot of different shades of purples in my garden. Blue purples, pink purples, fuschia purples. Must be a favorite.

Green! I don't like to see splotches of lurid colours without plenty of foliage as a foil. Some of the modern flower colours are very difficult to place especially if you live in a climate like mine where your garden will most often be seen under grey skies and drizzle. I think those bright colours look best in sunny climates. Same goes for clothes - you know how the bright fabric which looked fabulous when you were on holiday just looks tawdry when you get it home?

Evergreen shrubberies and trees need to be the "bones" of any garden to make the colors stand out and should be the first things planted. Unfortunately, and sadly, they are the most expensive plants to buy if you don't have any in your yard front the start.

My favorite colors are usually lavender, purple, pink, white and a little blue. Sometimes I'll add just a little soft yellow for accent.

That's the color combination I like in most of the gardens, but in the veggie garden (maybe it's all the green) I love bright yellow, orange, red, white, gold and maybe a little hot pink or purple. All those bright colors you see in a group of zinnias. Also have to have lots of marigolds, especially those little orange ones! My mom has always used those in her garden and it just doesn't seem "done" until those are planted around the tomatoes :)

Shades of purple, pink, blue and splashes of white. I have some red, yellow, orange, but trying to confine them to a bed all their own.

I've moved some things around this spring and I ponder how I will arrange it next year with new plants. I draw in my mind's eye new flower beds. I think that is why I love to garden so much...it's ever changing, always fresh and new.

Favorite color??????? uuummmm for me it is whatever color the current flowers blooming are showing. Right now my larkspur is coming into full flower and all the different shades of blues are such a pretty sight from the deepest blue/purple to the very lightest blue - it is the combination that draws my attention. The same with the pinks of the foxglove and then later in the summer all the yellows and oranges of the gallardias, blackeyed susans and sunflowers. Each season has it color for me - I cannot choose a favorite .....

My color choices are the same as last year, but I am adding a bit of dark red to the shade garden (the bee balm) and more white to the gardens. I like how it brightens up certain areas and it looks so nice in the evening :)

I love the combination of pink , purples whites and blues. Very soothing to me and that's what I enjoy! I hate that my red brick house dosnt necessarily coordinate but I'd never chose my plants based on that.

I use all colors in the garden and have never been able to keep to a color 'theme'. I like playing around with all kinds of colors to see what looks good. But there ARE a few colors I seem naturally to gravitate towards.

-Renee, LOVE that nasturtium! That is a favorite color of mine as well, the peachy/apricots. Roses with that color (or pale pink) are my favorites! There is a thread over on the perennial forum about plants in those shades if you are interested...
Also love wine/burgundy colors. Something so rich and luxurious about that shade.

Think there are more colors I DISLIKE though, like buff/flesh tones, deep gold (like rudbeckia), and hot pink for some reason, lol.

All shades and tones of pink, purple, violet and blue plus some white and pale yellow. And I also love accents of foliage in purple and burgundy, silver and chartreuse. So mostly cool colours with an occasional chartreuse and pale yellow colour bursts.

I love roses and this past year I fell in love with the salmon colored ones.

I have some of just about every color in my gardens, but I really, really love Orange (peach, apricot, or salmon)!! That is the color that does it for me, I smile every time I see it.

That's *almost* like trying to say which of my 6 Grandchildren is my favorite! A very difficult, if not impossible, question to answer.

However, based on what I've done so far this year in my garden makeover, I really like all shades of purples, pinks, blues, with white for relief/accent. I am also remaking a bed that is a distance from the house in bright yellows and reds. May add some orange there also and even purple. I also like the combo of deep red/burgundy or deep purple with lime green.

I used to say I didn't like orange flowers very much but have seen some wonderful combinations of orange with deep purples or bright fuschia pinks that I'd like to try somewhere. Haven't yet bought my annuals so may do something different with them.

I think I like all colors but especially like unusual combinations.

It's more what shade and form the color is and what it sits next to. Renee, those nasturtiums are delicious. I always have some variety somewhere in the garden. They are a childhood favorite. Love the shading of the orange to pink to peach in them. It is a prime example of what form of color always grabs me. The magenta Pelargonium is another perfect one. Love white throats in a bloom. It looks like it is lit up from inside. I choose many of my Daylilies for that feature. You could call it quiet drama.

I love the brown,rust,and amber irises and pansies. Like a whiff of autumn in the springtime. I think the color of the tulip "Cairo" is incredible-shades of burnt orange/terra cotta, amber, rust, and a butterscotch-like gold.

It changes with seasons.
This year it is juicy reds, vibrant oranges, almost black, mixed with bright yellows, purples and green. Throw in some white for a good measure, and I am a happy camper!
I guess I feel kinda wild and adventures this year :).

My favorites this year are oranges and purples which include all of the various shades in between such as peach and creamsicle, lavendar and blue/violet.

I love the coolness of lavender, pink, and blue, but since I garden for hummers (year round) and butterflies I grow all colors.

Blooming now in shades of white (cat's whiskers, hydrangeas, & angelonia), purple (zinnias, black & blue salvia, lantana, & angelonia), pink (Jacobina, cosmos, coneflowers, zinnias, agastache, & angelonia), blue (plumbago & hydrangeas), orange (Mexican flame vine, zinnias, & cuphea), yellow (rudbeckia, zinnias, milkweed, lantana, & daylilies), and red (firecracker vine, cuphea, & pineapple sage).

green - foliage has become increasingly more important to me than the fleeting darts of colour from petals and blossom. Also, the essential aspect of colour depends on relations between harmonising or contrasting colours. Apart from white which I love for the clarity under grey english skies, colours all need to flash against each other - which is also why green is such an important foil. With lots of green, there are few combinations which look awful together (although I have always struggled with yellow and pink, even with a sea of green between. And so, I am enjoying purple toadflax alongside acid green euphorbias, deep plum Dahlias interspersed with orange calendulas ans tithonias, scarlet geums cooled down with blue green elymus magellanicus or cerinthe. Then there are families - nearly all the blues, violets and purples work well together whereas pinks can vary between warm apricots to cool grey/lilacs and do not look good together or even nearby.
Then light is important (which is why the pale blues, lilacs and whites always look good in the UK climate, unlike the rich yellows of sunflowers which really should be seen under blue, blue skies.
Finally, there are the seasons - I love the cool greens, pinks and blues, primroses and creams of early spring but am craving rich clarets, burgundy, russets and gold (with deep aster blues) in autumn. So, all-in-all, I really do not have favourites which transcend time and place - it is all about context, blendings and even shocks (Geranium psilostemon (bright magenta) weaving through deep purple dieramas, soft orange geums or yellow bidens. Oh, I could go on...and on

It's funny for decades I didn't think I liked orange or gold. Now I find I can work with any color. I love the hot summer colors of zinnias including those golds and oranges in August.

I also am finding more red creeping into my borders. I used to greatly prefer pinks, purples, blues, whites, magenta.

Maybe your eyes need more color as you get older. ;)

1/10/12 - Tradescantia pallida 'Purple Heart,' which is perennial here grown in the ground. Nonexistent winter, flowers blooming in January on a potted plant that comes inside overnight when it freezes.

I agree about the colors and the seasons. I too pretty much like those palettes you mentioned for the seasons you mentioned, although I do choose brighter colors as well for spring(as well as summer). Even though many put down mums(I never used to like them), you can't beat them for autumn colors in autumn! All the purples, bugundies, maroons, rusts, ambers, oranges, golds that they come in-they look so appropriate and beautiful in fall. I really don't like the mums in soft or bright yellows, pinks, lavenders, and whites in fall. I think they look really out of place. Other colors that look good in the fall are brown(you don't have to search out anything in particular plant-wise for that color;it's everywhere that season),black, and even deep violets and fuschias.

I favor hot bright colors: Red, orange and yellow with bright blue, purple and white.

I also sometimes choose a plant because I like its shape regardless of color.

Soft yellow as an accent to my pinks and lavender blues is my newest obsession. Have you noticed how flower colors just seem to blend no matter what color they are? Unlike synthetic color that you have to work a little harder to get it right. I love flowers!

I'm very particular, but it really depends on the type of flower. I generally like solid plain colors. There are certain colors I tend not to be as fond of in general, but even then there's exceptions because I still like certain flowering plants with these colors. Colors give a feeling, and sometimes some colors go better in a certain place.

Depending on the type of flower, I might prefer one color over another. I don't know, it just seems that some colors go better on certain plants.

I love purple ! The purples of salvias & blue false indigo- with silver lambs ears & rose campion & wormwood. I love purple with orange/yellow cosmos - I love purples with chartreuse sedums & coleas & Black mondo grass. Never thought I would love purple so much- because as an interior designer- I abhor the brash color ... Must have something to do with the greens & Browns of the mulch that makes it so lovely... I 've even decided Walkers low catmint was my favorite plant last year. I want to buy flats & flats of it this year & have visions of weaving it thru everything ... We'll see how that goes. I also love pops of white phlox with softer purple foxgloves & the most gorgeous purples of all time are delphiniums & heavenly blue morning glories.
Also- I have a particular knockout rose hedge that is the most scrumptious lipstick red/ magenta combo that is gorgeous with purple. Soft pinks are also yummy with purples. I'm reminded of evening primrose w oregano in bloom. So pretty to me. Then a cardinal vine with it delicate self intertwined. I can't wait for spring
