Planted Again Today

I spent quite a while clearing, pruning, and planting this afternoon.

The wisteria looks much better, and I have planted quite a bit more in the new cottage/butterfly garden. I t was too late for a picture today, but I got an order from Garden Crossings while I was napping, and I planted it. Joe Pie Weed, A lupine and a salvia. Their plants are always beautiful! Not cheap, but beautiful.

I have one more order from them, and one from High country coming.

Did I tell you I planted 15 calla lily bulbs? Not cottage exactly, but I love them.

DH commented that the new bed was looking really good.

You have been busy again as usual. I still have so much to plant and I can't keep up. The fact that I keep buying more, just like you do, might have something to do with it. Your butterfly garden is going to be so beautiful. I love to see the butterflies in the yard, it makes the garden so much prettier to see them. And the hummers too!

I absolutely love a day in the garden where I have worked as hard as I possibly can. And then when I survey it all at the end of the day, I can actually see a difference and feel content about completion on many things. I hope you enjoyed your well deserved nap.

    Kay,

Callas are one of the oldest flowers planted in old cottage gardens. What are you talking about, girl! Soar with pride at having them in your garden!

Thank you all. Rita, I am tired. I will post in a little while. I am making real progress in the cottage/butterfly garden.
Memo, I must love it since I spend so much time out there. I don't know if I have mentioned it or not, but I am allergic to the sun. Can't be in it at all! None. Even in a car, I have to be protected. This means, I wear gloves, long pants, long sleeves, hat, the works! I usually garden with a fan blowing on me to cool a little.

Well, for Mother's Day, I got this big beach umbrella and stand. I used it this morning, and it was great to not have to be so covered up as usual.

Annie! Really? I love callas and already had them in one section. Now, they are planted in the new garden too.

While I was working today,, several of the smaller butterflys were keeping me company. There isn't all that much blooming yet, but they found it anyway.

I came in to fix lunch, and I think I will rest a little while before I go back outside.

kay - I know EXACTLY what you mean about the sun allergy... my mother has the same problem. That's the main thing that has kept her from her gardens.. for the last five years she can't even let her hands be touched by the sun or she gets blisters! Even with sunblock... I feel bad for her as she used to be a sun worshiper... and now she looks like a ghost. I hope I don't ever develop that problem although with my fair skin (I have red hair and very fair skin) I burn even when I'm wearing sunblock so I have to be extra careful to stay outta the sun as much as possible. That's probably why I prefer to do most of my gardening and outside activities in the evening as the sun's going down.

Kay, I didn't know about the sun allergy. It must make gardening very difficult. Not that it seems to have slowed you down.

    Cheryl and Rita,

Yes Cheryl, I know all about the blisters, and sunblock does not help...at all. I also have very fair skin, but it is an actual allergy rather than skin color. It doesn't take long to get into trouble.
tell your mama to get her a Tilley hat, some gloves, a long sleeved shirt and pants, and a big old fan blowing directly on her and get her hands back in the dirt...she can do it, she just has to be careful of the sun.

Rita, I just work around it. Very little comes between me and gardening. I love it, it is the very best therapy for me...I don't need xanax, let me order some plants, that will fix me up...or just start expanding my flower beds.

I sat down this afternoon and just watched the bluebirds and mocking birds feed their babies and DH came out told me I was just surveying my kingdom again...and he was right. He inserted the bolts to anchor my butterfly chair in the little porch on the side of the house. I guess that will be my "throne".
I derive so much pleasure from gardening that the cover up is a small price to pay.

It is pretty obvious that you don't let it slow you down, what with all the new plants you are adding and gardens you are expanding.

Can't slow down too much. Something may be coming up behind you :)
