I'm crazy about violas, too. So much so, that when they self seed outside the parameter of my flower beds, I just let them grow in the lawn. Mowing over them just makes them bloom more =:)

Depending where you live, and how much shipping would be, I'd think it would be faster and easier to go to the local greenhouse, buy a few of every color they have, which usually is lots, and just let them go to seed when they want to late in the season. You'll have tons more the following year. Or, you could try keeping the seeds and actually planting them where you want them. I've also dug up and replanted the ones that grew willy nilly, and they were fine .

You're right about keeping seeds. Right now I only have about 2 or 3 colours that come back and they self seed on their own and yes they transplant very well!

Viola is supposed to be hardier and longer lived than pansy, and we routinely get pansy overwintering here anyplace where there is good snow. I did a single mixed packet of viola last year, raised them in 4" pots then transplanted to planters in June. We'll see if they survive.

They're hardy all right - there are some blooming in my garden right now!
