I only have 5 trees wrapped and haven't unwrapped any yet. As it stands I am going to have to lug about 30 potted figs in the garage tonight since it is supposed to get down to 24 degrees F tomorrow. My plan is to wait until the beginning of April, look at the 10 day forecast and decided what to do from there.

Mine are still in the basement. It's to early for me. So I know it must be very early for you. You live about an hour away from me. I hope to get a chance to visit you this year.As we didn't get a chance last season.

I have not done mine yet either. I am going to wait until April.

Usually after Easter in the NYC and North NJ areas is the typical time folks unwrap their trees.

I usually wait till the first week of April; like the seventh and then look at the ten day forecast to make sure I'm safe.

NYC type climate may be safely unwrapped about March 15 in most years. If dormant, many varieties are just fine when exposed to freezes typical on occasion for mid/late March. IF they were growing early under their wrapping, that would be a different situation. They would be unprepared to take even a light freeze. I NEVER pamper a fig tree after August 1st because any late growth is MUCH more sensitive to cold. I also lived in an area with a sandy loam. Figs tended to stop growth earlier since the soil did not stay moist as long as clay soils.
I dragged out a tub with a Kadota fig from my garage since it seemed to be just starting to pop brebas. I will monitor the weather, and haul it in if it should turn very cold. NO freezes are likely in Cape May County over the next seven days.

Never since I am in the South and even in bad winters they never die back that much. I did however, uncover my Windmill Palms that need to get established before leaving them to face the winter unprotected, usually 3-4 seasons.

I uncovered my new Brown Turkey three weeks ago here in Eastern Washington when it started to sprout new growth. Then we got temps down into the low 20's one night. I think I killed it.

Well I unwrapped 5 trees yesterday. A couple of them have swollen buds but none have leafed out. The 10 day forecast looks good with only a couple lows predicted at 30 degrees fahrenheit.

I did the same thing except it was cold in my area for at least a week and tips froze. now it's going to take me much longer to provoke them to start growing again since they are still in the basement because it's still around
1* degree celsius outside and it's going to last at least for another week.
it's getting late although some of them did start leafing in the dark.

I uncovered two 3 yeard old Brown Turkey today and I am so disappointed because white thing on tree and branches look dead.
We had crazy weather and poor trees were too hot under three layers of wrapping. I used burlap, brown paper, and tarp.
Are white things mold?
Can I save these trees or need to get rid of?
What do you think people?

I just uncovered our fig trees when we unwrapped they were wet and one has a hole down the center of the branches. Any advice appreciated!, I don't know if it survived the winter

See if it sprouts from the roots! Mine had to last year and it's looking like that may be true this year, too. I'm going to have to get some hardier varieties if these really cold winters keep up. I want earlier figs :)

Thank you Merrdith for your comment! I hope I get some thing out of my tree's not so much fruit this year because the tree's are young but I'd love to see alot of leaves at least
