Do you have any old pictures of the tree that you could post? Maybe someone could identify it by looking at it. I remember my grandfather's fig trees from my childhood but I don't know what type they were. Well good luck to you!

Celeste is also small. Brown Turkey is a big fig. Perhaps your spot is not suited to a brown turkey? I always thought they seemed to like less water (Celeste Figs love water).

Both fig trees seemed stressed. I think root knot nematodes weakened them and an april hard freeze several years ago finally killed one. The other living tree blew over in a hurricane and has been doing great ever since. I think it established new roots off of the limbs that were touching the ground. If I had to guess I would think the remaining tree is around 70 years old, both trees have had a good run.
I must have a celeste if it puts out smaller figs.

It probably IS a Celeste because you can hardly kill that variety unless you drown it! When the tree fell over, it probably said, "Oh Boy! More ground contact!" :) LOL!

Whatever it is, it sounds very strong.

Perhaps when it sent down new roots after it blew over it got a little break from the nematode infestation. They'll probably return to the new roots too though if the soil is conducive to them.

You can do a search on many topics in this forum-including how to post pictures-although I've never posted any myself.

The survivor is probably a Celeste. I have both Celeste and BT growing in the same area, and the Celeste ripens earlier than BT, and has a smaller fruit.
