Your honeyberry looks like it's leafing out a lot already. Is it early for you? The trees are very early in Winnipeg this year.

I'm utterly amazed at how early your nanking is in Winnipeg, Gillian!! (And it's so beautiful! I'm sure the air is perfumed too!) That must be weeks ahead of the norm, no? Not meaning to put a damper on, but a week of the almost inevitable crap weather may wipe out your crop of berries....so take lots of pix and enjoy those blossoms!! Ours will be weeks yet - the buds are only swelling now. Our 'Norland' apple is starting to leaf out, and the mayday is more advanced yet, as usual.
Our sweetberry honeysuckles (= honeyberry) are leafing out as well now - one in a more sheltered spot is almost fully leafed-out (but haven't noticed any blooms yet) - and that's normal for them here. The other earliest "leafer-outer" is alpine currant... These two are great choices for anyone who wants early shrub colour.

I'm confused now, your member page shows that you live in the USA.. right?
For me, it is the first spring for honey berry....so I guess it is normal this early according to Lori.
My Nanking is also just swelling now.

Hi Konrad, to get to the Gallery go to the main Far North Forums page, and just above all the links to our threads, there is a little caption that says "On-Topic Discussions: Switch to - Gallery or Conversations" You click on the word Gallery to go there, or Conversations to go to the Conversations Area where we can talk about anything that doesn't have to do with gardening. There's lots of fun stuff on the Gallery!

And no, I am not from the USA, I am from Winnipeg. I don't remember why it says that, I think it is a mistake in the members page settings or something.

Lori, thanks, yes it is about two weeks early but I am optimistic that I will get a good fruit set. I have always had a lot of fruit in the past as long as the weather is warm enough for bees in the week of flowering. The full-shot cherry bush is my best producer. It's under a massive elm tree that might protect it somewhat from frost - I'm not sure about that but it might. Also our weather is not always warm in Winnipeg, but it is a but more stable this time of year than Calgary - we don't get those crazy hot and cold snaps.
