March goes out....sheepishly

:) Well, i guess the lion and lamb thing wasn't meant to be this year. March went out on pretty much the same note it came in - mild, seasonable or slightly below. It had its ups and downs, but not a lot of extremes.

Environment Canada predicts a warm April for pretty much the whole country, and above normal temperatures for April, May and June for most of the country (sorry, those of you in BC - you get to be normal!). While i've learned that you can't put much stock into these predictions, i make a point of believing them if they're good!

Real spring is almost here!

It was rather lamb-like here yesterday, and as I recall it was lionish early in the month so the old saying held true in these parts.

Today is also a nice, temp is currently 8C, sunny & a warm breeze, and there's plenty of melting going on. There's a big patch of grass showing in the front, and an even bigger slough in front of that. The Robins, Crows and Geese are back, and I noticed a pair of Housefinches early this morning at the Niger feeder (just put it back up yesterday). I can see a fair bit of the flower bed at the front (south) side of the house, and snow has melted off the biggest hypertufa container I planted up last year - looks like everything lived - well, at this point anyway. The Dianthus are green and the hens & chicks look no worse for wear.

I'm glad it's April.

I definately agree with Pudge that March started like a lion but went out more lambish than sheepishly.

Yesterday the temperature was at least 10deg. and sunny. What little bit of snow that we got is almost gone, my flower beds are appearing everywhere. Just a bit of snow left in the shaded areas. It was warm enough that I spent part of the afternoon outside without a coat on. I did a bit of pruning on my Evans cherry, Ornamental crab and a couple of Mountain ash trees. I'm glad spring is here and can go out without worrying about bundling up. Now if I can only figure out how to keep the dog from getting so muddy!!!!!!

Over this weekend and last, we have all the perennials cut down (so actually the yard is in its least interesting phase of the whole year! It always kills me to cut down those big grasses!) Greenhouse has not yet been washed down, but soon...
I was out with a brush sweeping off the mats of creeping thyme along the sidewalk (removing all the gravel/pebbles scattered around for traction during the winter); it really freshens things up - I'm sure the neighbors think I'm nuts...and maybe so!

March definately went out like a lamb here. All week long the snow was melting and my flowerbeds emerging again. I did the same as Lori and cut down everything the other day. While I was out there chopping things down I ventured a peek under the mulch and all sorts of things are coming up already too, mostly bulbs, blackberry lily, irises, and columbines.

Ohhh crazydaisy I am sooooo jealous that your stuff is coming up already...the only things I have been getting since it has started melting is muddy dogs...UGH!
