Very neat. Here I think I stopped gardening in November (winter protected a few things) then only resumed it in the past week when I uncovered things. I kept meaning to trim my apple trees in February, but then I realized the snow was too deep around them (my own fault, since I piled it there.)

My indoor gardening experience has been a disaster as well as my geraniums had a lot of dead leaves and my impatiens had aphids a few times throughout winter. Then I found out my canna roots had rotted over winter, I think the unusually mild January meant that the basement was too warm so they didnÂt store well.

Anyways, itÂs great to see soil and grass, even if itÂs soggy and the soil is still cold to the touch.

It's fun to say I gardened 12 months in a row. Way better than the last 12-month thing I noted - snow every month including July! I'm just hoping that our winter didn't do too much harm to my lilacs. They had nice green buds in January, and March was definitely wintery.

Glen, how did you store your cannas? Sorry to hear that they all rotted.

I found that over the years, the best way to store the cannas (in the fall after the tops have frozen once and then trimmed to a few inches) was to
1. dig them out of the dirt in the garden
2. put them in a 2 gallon pot
3. fill to cover with DRY garden dirt
4. place them in the basement

The garden dirt keeps them from being dried out and also from getting too moist. I have tried lots of ways of overwintering them and found that this way works ALL the time for me.
