Aahh but it feels good to garden again!

I've just finished cleaning off the front yard borders and the rock garden bordering the driveway. I find if I don't get in there and clean out all the wet leaves and such then I suffer some loss from rotting.

It's 17C, windy, and mostly sunny, and with tomorrow's temp forecast at 26 (really?? nah, the weather folks are playing with me for sure) the rest of the snow should disappear from the back yard, always so much slower to melt, and dry things up a bit. Surprisingly the forecast for the next week looks pretty good with highs in the mid-teens and lows above zero. We'll see, I have little trust in the weather folks. But if so, I'll be soo happy if I can keep tackling the beds slowly and have everything cleaned up by the end of the month. If I have to go great guns then I think this darn tennis elbow, still not healed, is going to give me some grief. I feel it already - time to pop some ibuprofen to try and stave off the worst of it.

But anyway, jeez that sure felt good out there today. I've been doing many 6 km walks trying to strengthen up my back and legs to prepare for gardening season. I suspect my shoulders and arms may feel a bit wobbly for a bit but who cares, right?

Oh, and the ground is thawed - that means I should be able to plant my order of 100 Costco lilies straight away - I'm expecting them tomorrow.

Anyone else getting into it?

It does feel good to be out in the garden Pudge, busy but good ;)

You guys must be getting our nice weather tomorrow, we reached 23 today but now its clouding over and were in for another cold front coming in tomorrow!

I managed to bring 1/2 the seedlings from downstairs out to the greenhouse and brought up the stored plants that were overwintering in the pumphouse as well.

I have tomorrow and next weekend off and I plan on cutting back the dead foliage from last year.

Spring is soooo exciting! ;)

You put it just right Pudge. A day like this almost makes up for 6 months of winter. I spent the afternoon clearing the oak leaves that accumulated over the winter out of the perennial beds and enjoying each sign of life that I found. even though the ground is still frozen it smells so good.

Oh yes, it was a great day out there today! I was able to get one wheelbarrow of dead stuff off of some of the beds. My one front shrub bed is still totally under snow, but most of the other beds are snow free. It's such a rush for me seeing so many of the perennials starting to show green. Let me tell you, it was especially exciting finding out that my Itoh peony survived the winter, and is putting out new shoots. I'm a little worried about some of my daylilies though, as the crowns on some of them seem to be mushy. But it'll be awhile before I count them out completely. DH is out there now pumping out the pond so that we can clean it out. By now, I'm sure my fish are really sick of being in that tiny aquarium.

It was beautiful in Calgary today and I was able to clear out a few of my beds. I was clearing the dead leaves from my creeping thyme...it smelled amazing everytime I grabbed a handful. It felt like spring was her to stay!!!

You all are making me jealous! We just got a fresh 3 inches of snow this a.m. At this rate thinking winter might be hanging around for a while yet :(.

AH SPRING!

beautiful weekend in MT as well- kids earned and paid off major money- front flower beds and gardens cleared- boulevard rock garden emptied of rocks and cleaned (need to do another "redo" of that!) new path laid through the big bed out front, borders refreshed on all the rock-lined beds, oh boy oh boy! I even got to stuff a few bulbs in the ground and got 1/4 of my onions planted- then realized I had no pea seeds! Apparently I need to go shopping again today! ;-)
Ah well, it's supposed to halve in temp and rain or @#$ by tomorrow, so I can start repotting starts- except that repotting house plants used up all the shelves and hooks!

That is good to hear about your Itoh peony Laurie.

I managed to get three beds cleaned today.... why do I keep extending my beds when each year I'm getting older! LOL

Hot lavender bubble bath, glass of wine and A535 is on my agenda tonight!

My gosh, what a day out there. Okay, so the weather people were pretty close today - it did get to 25C. But alas, I had to work and have a meeting this evening so no gardening and getting dirty for me today. Darn.

That's really excellent news about the Itoh peony, Laurie.

Don't despair, ronniroo - it's not entirely unlikely that we haven't finished seeing the white stuff just yet.

Today was my day. :) It was beautiful out there and i spent the afternoon in the front flower bed cutting down dead stalks (and crushing them up like Pudge suggested!), and pulling weeds that have made it through the winter wonderfully. There's new growth all over the place and crocuses blooming in odd spots, and many more coming up. I also got most of the water out of the pond - will have to finish that tomorrow, as there is a lot of sludgy stuff in there - and two dead minnows! Where did they come from? LOL

So it was a wonderful day. And i'm ready for another one tomorrow!
