Daffodils???

Sorry Gil, no guesses from me...it looks *really* familiar...like I may have some showing up soon, but this prego brain of mine just isn't firing on all 4 cylinders.

I do have a "What's it?" of my own to add though...

I have a bunch of these sprouting, apparently from my potting mix...most likely a weed, but thought I'd check just in case I've gotten some 'bonus' plants in my mix.

Any guesses?

My guess is Hyacinth Gil? If it is, you lucky girl!

and Verena, looks like Nicandra physaloides Shoo Fly plant?

Shelley - I didn't think they were daffs because my daffs always come up with all their leaves flat together - these are definitely a rosette.

Sharon, maybe hyacinths... there seem to be a few of them as if they have been naturalizing(??) They are really bothering me! I guess I will know soon enough. Does anyone grow frittilarias to tell me if they look anything like that? It also occured to me that they might be some sorta different or species tulip that has slightly different foliage. The leaves are thick almost leathery as you can see and the plant seems large and robust.

Oh, thanks Sharon! That could very well be it. I tried sowing some Shoo Fly plant last year off of collected seed, and had a zero success rate (also tried this year with no success). I threw the soil back into the bag this spring before I started sowing. They must have liked the abuse!!

(Glad I didn't pull them! I sowed some more this year, and still haven't had any germination...they must like the long freeze, because that soil was outside all winter, and brought in when I started my ws'ing.)

Ok Verena, you are the only person I know ever to get a pleasant surprise out of potting soil... LOL ;0)

Actually last year I threw some unsprouted columbine soil back and got columbines in everything.

My mystery plants are still bothering me. >:0(

Those look an awful lot like the giant Alliums that are now sprouting in my garden.

Pudge - I'm 98% sure you're right! I have never grown alliums and didn't know what the foliage looks like because everyone just photographs the flower heads... but I googled it and I think you're right. Also, I found one has a woody, hollow stem still attached from last fall.

Just a note - it will be interesting to see how those plants look in bloom. When I was planting mine this past fall it said to plant them enough distance appart to allow for the size of the flower globe. Some of those sprouts look really close together. They might look really nice if some of the plants grow to slightly different heights.

I noticed mine have multiplied. One of the bulbs is sending up 3 shoots this year, all right tight together.

And this one? Could be muscari, chionodoxa or Galanthus according to my fall order, although I don't remember planting them here :^( Some of these are coming up very clustered, so they must have multiplied already.

Hey Toots, the first one could be a crocus... the leaves are thicker than most but the stripe is right. The second, I would say is Muscari. Looks like tiny daffodil leaves. They could well be multiplying, some of the bulbs were likely doubles when you got them.

Thanks, Gil. They were both up with the snow, but still haven't bloomed. Patience, patience... A snow drop (Galanthus spp.) came up and bloomed in the meantime elsewhere in the garden.

Ok, what's this? These seedlings are coming up in the bed where I sowed Aconitum (monkshood) last fall (thanks Sharon). They are either that or possible ash tree seedings from the nearby ash tree. Anyone know?
