That is cool, too bad they don't want information from BC on their maps. I wonder why? They also seem to miss most of western USA as well. Hmmmm....

Do you get ruby throats out there, or other kinds of hummingbirds? I think this site was just for ruby throats - in which case, this might have been the wrong forum to post the link! Sorry! Maybe they have similar sites for whichever hummers come to the western areas.

West of the Rockies we donÂt get the Ruby-throated hummingbirds.
We mostly get Rufous along with AnnaÂs and Calliope hummingbirds.
I donÂt know that IÂve ever seen the AnnaÂs or Calliope.
With the juveniles and females itÂs often hard to tell and they move so fast.

Thanks Ian, I always thought that we did get the Ruby-throated hummingbirds here. I knew we got the Rufous, I've never heard of Annas' or Calliope hummingbirds.

For the last couple of years, the ruby-throated hummingbirds have showed up at our feeders on May 4. Amazing. I wonder if it will be earlier this year since we seem to be having an early spring? I usually start putting out the feeders in mid-April, just in case.

I always put out the hummingbird feeder on Mother's Day weekend. They seem to show up a day or two after that. It'll be sure nice to see the little guys again :^)

I put mine out around the same time, Laurie or a little later. If the feeder isn't out when they come back, they've often come and let us know they're there by flying up to the house windows. Cute, eh? :)

The hummers show up here around April 21st..we had to put a screen door on the greenhouse to stop them from flying in. They see the hanging baskets and fly in but can never find the open door to fly out again. I hate to see the little guys paniced and exhausted trying to find the way out...savona

Oh wonderful Laurie! I cleaned my feeders and made a batch of syrup today, got them all out for when they arrive here.

Oh, i'd better make some syrup then! I checked my notes and they came back on the 16th last year, but i'd better be ready for them - don't want to make the little guys mad! :)

WOW! I have had 1 hummingbird in my front yard and no feeder, just a hanging basket that I bought at Walmart, haven't seen that hanging basket since or the type of flowers that were in it. The flowers were small and a mid purple color. Wish I knew what the flower was, that was about 5 years ago and haven't seen another since. I did buy a new feeder a month or so ago. Guess I better get it out soon. The weather has been cold though. When do they show up in Alberta? Does anyone know?

I saw that last year too, Laurie - very interesting! Here's a link to another webcam that i've been watching for over a month now. I didn't realize there were still shots taken during the day - i might have seen eggs hatching then. Next year!
