I have not moved a honeysuckle vine...but I have moved many other plants.

I would recommend that if you were to do so, do so asap as the ground thaws, before the plant wakes up and starts to grow this spring. Take as much soil as you can with the roots, so as to disturb the root system as little as possible. The younger the plant the easier it would be to do so also.

Do they make a long tap root? I know it is hard to move plants that have a tap root like sea holly.

Sounds good Brenda...probably should cut them back hard as well or do you think with them being still somewhat dormant, I could leave as much stems as possible? Deb

I should mention that my searches mainly showed up how to "kill" a honeysuckle but those were from the lower states/higher zones.

I would wait till they are just sprouting out new growth, that way you'll know they made the winter.

Sharon, I wonder if Deb was to cut back the honeysuckle a bit when she was to move it, whether it would be easier on the plant.

I know that we do this with irises, so that the iris will spend more energy on getting the roots established that first year.

If she trimmed it partly back now, the plant, being in dormancy wouldn't know what 'hit' it.

It would also branch out more too, wouldn't it? And, that in turn would give a fuller vine later on.

I would leave as much stems as possible, pruning off only the the top dead branches (1/3 off). You could do a hard prune but keep in mind that it will most likely not bloom this year.
