Planted tomato and it got cold

I thought I could cheat the season a bit. We had a couple of weeks with lows above 12C and highs over 20C. I planted five determinate tomatoes in pots. Over the weekend it got cooler, windy, and lows 7-8C. I was in meetings Saturday and Sunday; so, it was this morning I got jugs over them to give them some protection.

Getting two weeks growing time is a temptation with our short season. Fortunately, I haven't cleaned up enough of the garden to plant in the ground. :)

Today was "supposed" to be about 22 C today in the Edmonton area, though it's darn well chilly! At my location, up in the hills north of Spruce Grove, it was a balmy 28 and 27 C the last few days, really warm! The tomatoes went in a few days ago and at that time the forecast was calling for normal temps to come, though now it feels so cold it could snow ... I should get out and cover those plants with a warm blanket, lol ...

It was forecast 15 degrees today and we only got 8. It's really chilly out. Our low is 1 tonight and I'm bringing the seedlings in. You never know when you're going to get your last frost...

Heard there may be frost in the rural areas around Edmonton tonite. Sure feels cold enuff. I haven't planted anything so I won't have to worry,

Same here, it gets cold every year till end of May, it was weird
today or yesterday with the weatherman, it was supposed to be
in the teens today...as Terry mentioned.. at noon I looked on the hourly forecast, it said 13 at noon and 1PM but it was only 4!!
With clearing tonight there will be frost!

CAN'T TRUST THE WEATHERMAN!

It didn't freeze here, but it came close, +2. Sure was awful cold yesterday - the north wind was howling! This has been such a weird year. You think you've finally got past it all, and wham, the cold hits again. :-/

0 degree forecast for tonight. I'm not even putting them outside today, I'll just have to bring them in again.

I usually find the best weather of the summer is in early May. I really hate to miss the growing days. I am getting better at planting later. Procrastinating on clean-up has some benefits. Not that the garden/lot was ready for clean-up.

Planted mine in the unheated greenhouse yesterday, waiting another week before planting the outside ones. It is still touch and go around here and it is forecasting for rain the rest of the week. C

I took half of mine out of the basement yesterday, let them sit in the shade, and then into the garage. Going to about -1 tonight, so I'm glad the garage holds it's heat.

The rest I'm still hiding in the basement for a few days. I just don't trust the weather.

I've promised to give away a bunch of them, so I really don't want to take too many chances.

The weatherman was wrong again for the Edmonton region...saying the cloud would clear over night,...this time it
was in our favor..no frost! It was plus 5 this morning.
