Moving a fig

I am a very newbie gardener (this is my first post after about a year of lurking at GW)...now that that's out of the way...

I recently moved to Dallas, TX and purchased a house. The previous owners did some really horrible planting (I won't even call it landscaping) in the front of the house. The front is facing North with 5 huge trees in the front yard. It's definitely shady with some partial shade. I'm still learning about shrubs and such, so the biggest thing I'm doing is identifing. Everything I've identified is supposed to grow in full sun! No wonder it doesn't look very good.

In one of the shadiest spots is a fig tree - right up against the house. It's doing surprisingly well, just a little yellowing on some of the leaves and it's growing nicely, it's about 2' with some pretty good sized leaves on it. However, I'd like to move it to a sunnier spot (probably one of the part-shade areas of the front yard, about 15 feet from where it is now). I had read somewhere that figs don't like to be moved.

So, when's a good time to move this (can I do it now, or should I wait until winter). I'd prefer to move it now as I'm starting to get my landscaping in order and I want to make sure that the fig gets a good spot. Do I just dig it up and replant or is there something special I should do?

A secondary question... how would a fig do in a hot, morning sun only area? The space between my house and the next seems to be 10-15% hotter than the rest of the area. It's also mostly shade, but does get a few hours of morning to afternoon full sun.

thanks in advanced for all the advice!!
