%*$#@#$weather

Is this supposed to be spring?

I am so sick of this weather!!! Yesterday was absolutely lovely and I finally started hauling some of my sunroom plants outdoors. I was hoping to start moving the basement dwellers up into the sunroom.

I got up this morning and was shocked to see the high/low thermometer in the sunroom showing a low of 1C. The wind is howling again. Going down to zero tonight. The plants outside are in a type of cold frame. I really don't want to haul them back in. I'm sure the windchill out there is below zero.

My DH had a tee time early this morning. He came in looking frozen stiff even though he was wearing long johns and a toque.

Here we got two days of lovely weather- tuesday and wednesday (i'm off on weekends) It has RAINED ever since! Inches per day rain.

The other half got 1/3 of my garden ready to put in veggies on Wed. - but I can't plant!

Oh well, at least I can garner some amusement from this- my prissy 16 year old is spending the weekend (holiday for us) camping in the mountains!

Cold here again, too, plus a good wind. It has gotten steadily colder since this morning, and it's now only 3C, and yet another frost warning is issued for tonight. We did get a bit of much needed rain, which will make it even more fun trying to get the frost blankets down in the wind and the mud. Honestly, if I wake up tomorrow morning and see white rain, I won't be surprised.

    This spring sucks.

At least if we got the rain, I wouldn't complain (at least not as much). We just can't seem to get any. So on top of the cold, it is very dry.
I was forced to stay in and do housework. Blah.

It is flipping cold here too.
I was looking at photos from last year and I had roses blooming mid June in 2007. Fat chance they will be blooming by that time this year.

We must be on the warm side of that system, we've been having fairly warm rain which is GREAT because it was so dry all spring! We had a beautiful day yesterday followed by a thunderstorm. Sorry you're getting crappy weather.

So up and down here in Alberta, two days of warm followed by rain cold and wind. It's now time for transplants, though I'm sure leary of doing so! We need some HEAT, heat that would decide to stick around!

Frost expected again tonight and I'm feeling the need to vent about this so called spring we're having.

I am so behind in my chores due to all that damn sn@# in April, and with the trees having barely leafed out, I am really struggling with a bout of apathy about getting things done in the garden this spring. It's feeling really overwhelming with having such a late start to being able to get outside.

This is my 4th year gardening in tropical zone 2b, and for the first time I am really questioning the point to all my efforts. If my nasty clay soil isn't bad enough (hence all the hard labor involved with my gardening efforts)---now, another cold spring that will likely be another cool summer. Only one daffodil so far, and most of my tulips have yet to bloom.....granted their late spring varieties, but geez its 4 days away from June!

I'm bummed, needless to say....what keeps everyone else here motivated to keep on plucking along with our shared madness? I need some inspiration. Thanks! Carolyn

And as is typical in Manitoba, two days after warm weather, we are running around covering plants with blankets covering up plants as it hit -2c/28F last night.

What keeps us going? For me it's the thought, in my head, of having everything planted and growing nicely and sitting outside on a warm summer day, surrounded by my favorite plants. I also love watching the process week to week of the plants. Of course right now I'm thinking I should have put wheels on some of those heavy ceramic pots so I could just roll them indoors each night.

    Carolyn,
I can't help you with inspiration; I'm getting pretty discouraged also. What's defeating me, besides the cold, is the total lack of rain.
My 4 rain barrels are sitting waiting and all empty. Rain is always a couple days away in the forecast, but never happens.
But on the plus side, we seem to be over the frost warnings, for now anyway, LOL, and it's actually warm out there.

Chins UP! Yes, we are several weeks behind. But, last time I looked the snowbanks are GONE. I see clematis extruding from the earth and a few no shows. However, we'll call it Spring and get on with it; as we always do. My clematis are rebounding nicely and I think I'll plant a few vitacellas for spite. Lawn furniture is out and summer can't be far behind.

lolol I moved to yorkton from Yukon.last fall....this is lovely weather...i have grass and a a few scraggly tulips and weeds ive never seen before, but its all GROWING lol
...and the garden centers oh my :D
The garden here hasnt been touched in about 15 years, badly overgrown trees..a mountain ash, crabapple, chokecherry, had to remove the lilac unfortunately.
I gardened up north,,,mostly in greenhouse, actually being able to grow things such as tomatoes etc outside is a whole new experience, and one i'm really looking forward to. Finally got all the brush etc cleared out and am ready to plant potatoes today hopefully :D

moosiegrow, I'm not very far from you, Yorkton is my main shopping/service area (dentist appt there on Friday, yuck). I trust you've been to Parkland greenhouse? Nice, eh? Another one, Skinners on the far west end by the u-pick strawberry fields is a great place, too.

I think the weather has finally taken its turn for the better and I took off all the frost blankets this morning. Boy-oh-boy, I hope that move hasn't jinxed something!
