I've heard about it, should be a nice all around apple, more of a cooking type, similar to Goodland, it's a cross with Mantet I think,.. should be hardy.

I have one of these. I'm getting blooms this year, so I hope to have at least a couple apples to sample come September. Supposedly, they are one of the best-eating prairie hardy apples. My Prairie Magic tree has survived our winters fine, but hasn't seemed to be as vigorous a grower as my Goodland. But some of my other trees have been like that for a few years, then they grew like crazy.

This week during a
chance conversation
with customers Keith and Penny
Drysdale of Medicine Hat, Alberta,
I discovered Keith�s dad introduced
one of my favourite apple varieties
to the Prairies. Wilfred Drysdale
started the first �Prairie Magic�
seed in his yard. According to
Keith, it took about 20 years for
the tree to yield its first fruit. But
it was worth the wait. Prairie Magic
is excellent to eat fresh and stores
well. I also discovered Wilfred�s
passion for gardening wasn�t
limited to nurturing apple trees. He
refused to give up gardening even
when quite elderly and facing mobility issues. Wilfred simply got down on
his hands and knees and crawled through the garden to tend to his plants.
Penny said they were never alarmed when they saw him lying motionless on
the lawn because they knew he was only napping until rested enough to once
again crawl through the garden. Wilfred�s dying wish was to have his ashes
scattered beneath his beloved Prairie Magic, and that�s indeed where his
ashes are today. Prairie Magic may be the name of the apple, but I think it
equally describes Wilfred Drysdale.

Thanks for the story. The variety may be named "Prairie Magic," but I think from now on I'll call it "Wilfred Drysdale."

Hope it doesn't take 20 years to bear fruit here!
