Amy, I have the same plant and have been waiting to see if it blooms too. It's about 5' tall, and have been trying to find out what it is, so am hoping someone will know!

It looks like the type of ginger that's in my garden as well but I don't know the variety name. It blooms in early spring but is not particularly showy....you might even miss seeing it, but it's beautifully fragrant. I really don't know much else about it. You might try the gingers forum:

It looks like a Milkweed plant to me.

Doesn't look like any ginger or milkweed to me. Has it flowered yet? If not any chance of a picture of the base?
