Your red wine Lophospermum is a relatively new basket plant of the Gloxinia family

Mandevilla vine is a perennial but it won't stand any freezing so you either have to bring it in or treat it like an annual.

I had a Lophospermum in one of the planters out front last year and it did very nicely did not get too tall but covered the trellis well. It only got early morning and late evening sun and the soil was very dry, so I would call it not the greatest conditions. My mom loves Mandevilla, she pots them up in small hanging baskets and hangs them above her clematis every year, most years they will grow down about 6 foot, in good years they grow to the ground, about 11 foot. I love that Red velvet Mandevilla, it is a beautiful color and hopefully I can pick one up when I get around to filling my boxes and baskets. With this weather I am not in any hurry to start them, but something that lovely will sell out quickly. I had a friend who planted a Mandevilla in the ground to grow up her fence and it did manage to come back the next year, but died the year after that, so in the ground in a very sheltered spot it may suprise you.
