Congrats on your new fern leaf peony;they are a much sought after plant! They prefer a partially shaded location especially from the hot afternoon sun so your west location might not be the best. They like a moist and humus rich soil. I'm not sure if this was the best time to divide the peony so you will need to pamper it some. The wilting may just be a reflection of some transplant stress. Be careful not to over water it but keep it moist. If it is in a hot spot you might consider moving it to a shadier location. I wouldn't fertilize it now except for maybe some bonemeal scratched in the soil around the plant. Good luck!

Thanks it is in a shady west spot we have large oak trees that line the street so it they do provide some shade. I could not put it in the back as we have dogs and I could not risk it being eaten. I know the timing was not the best but it was either take it now or leave it with the house and we were not willing to do that.

I took mine out of my mom's garden in the middle of July and left it in a bucket for 2 weeks, it came back just fine the nest year. I thought I had lost it. I also missed a piece when we moved and left it sitting on top on the soil and muclched over it without planting it and it survived and bloomed the next year. I am finding them to be pretty abuse tolerant. Good luck with it, and my mom had hers in a very sunny location and it was huge, big 4' ball
