Since no one from Florida has chimed in yet I'll give you my impression of LSU Purple from here in Arizona. It is a very healthy and productive tree. Lots of growth. Lots of fruit. It is everbearing in nature from what I have observed: the main crop figs start to ripen in early summer and keep ripening late into the fall.

The downside with this variety is that the fruit usually doesn't taste very good the first few years. I got mine in the fall of 2010. It started ripening fruit for me in 2011. The figs were bland with kind of a weird aftertaste to them. in 2012 the figs started getting better, but still weren't that good. They started getting noticeably sweeter. Still not much of a fig flavor. They still had a bit of a weird aftertaste to me. I looking forward to see how they taste this year. Supposedly by the 4th or 5th year they start tasting really good. Some people say that the fruit tasted good to them from the first year on, but that has not been my experience or the experience of many other fig growers too.

LSU Purple is recommended for soils that have nematodes. The vigorous growth allows the tree to regenerate roots even with some pressure from nematodes feeding on the roots. Nematodes are a big problem in South Florida from what I understand.
