fig tree transplant

I have a fig tree in a pot that has been growing for 2 years. I had it inside over the winter here in New Jersey. Inside it grew figs over the winter but they dried out and fell off. I was thinking of transplanting it into the ground near my other fig tree. It is currently growing very slow, it has some sunburn from when i brought it outside a few weeks ago. If i transplant it into the ground do i risk loosing it? is there a certain time of the season thats best for transplanting?

Thanks

Ralph
