Transplanting Columbine

This year, I noticed some Columbine blooming beside the garbage bin ..... the bin that I missed when I was tossing the dirt out of some pots from seeds that "didn't take" a couple of years ago. Needless to say, this is not my most desireable spot to have these growing .....

..... how well do they transplant? (also, is spring or fall the best time to move them?)

Colleen, my first columbine came as a transplant from a friend's garden. I got it from her sometime in August and it transplanted very well. At that time she mentioned that anytime after they were done blooming its "OK" to transplant them.

I have a white one that keeps getting stepped on by my kids -- it's right on the edge where they like to play "patio" hockey. I was just thinking this morning that I am going to move it after they done blooming -- well, they have been forced into giving up all their flower stems (which are now in the house in a vase!) but I will wait until all the others are done and it's their natural time to be done blooming.
