You could try. Poppies are cool germinators. What kind of poppies do you have? Twice I have seeded Icelandic poppies and they showed up a whole year later.

I would throw them in they seem to self seed very easily

Peony poppies from this year, and Iceland poppies from last year.
Double Shirley poppies were seeded yesterday.

I usually pick the seed heads in fall, still have some. The perennial poppies I like, they flower for a long time...been flowering for several weeks now. Then come the California, then
some others.
