There are one or two I wasn't able to get but couldn't find the email that said which ones. With the price of the phyto and shipping being split between all of us, the cost was really reasonable.

Otherwise, I already did two iris/daylily exchanges with others this year and have another large iris/daylily exchange with someone else in the works. It is fun! No one has to put out money then. We exchange one iris for one iris, two irises for a daylily or one daylily for one daylily. Depending upon the value of the daylily maybe three irises for one daylily or something like that.

Sounds like you guys exchange a lot of plants. I am sure that is fun, but it also takes sooooooo much time.

I bought a few bearded iris locally this spring. I also order a few new sibs, that are now planted. And I just placed an order for a few more bearded for the newly expanded beds. Just a few to fill in the areas that need filling. I am kind of interested in old iris.....more the heritage types.

Of course I will go look at that web address this week. lol Hopefully my keyboard won't short out from all the drool. :)))

Sierra, I haven't made the time to post on the FN all the new irises blooming here in my yard for the first time...yet. I will be updating my photobucket slowly, as I can, with all the new irises. Then you will really have something to drool over! I love Blueberry Tart and Cranapple and Dragon's Den, and, and, and....I am just happy I have been able to take pictures each morning to try to keep up with the blooming around here. With the perennial purchases/exchanges, perennial sales and the speaking at garden clubs this spring I haven't even gotten all the flowerbeds cleaned off yet. Hopefully this week....It isn't summer yet. I still have a few days left.

Exchanging plants...yes, it takes time but there is no cost then to either of us. Plus, immediately we can plant the new aquisition(s) up. I still cut the foliage down so the plant can concentrate on its new roots.

Roaring jelly.....the first one didn't grow and they sent a replacement.....but it isn't growing either. I'm disappointed.

I doubt that you will have a problem with your Victorian Secret. My Victorian Secret and Silvers Edge were both a bit bigger than the Roaring Jelly sib. I'd have to check to see how they are doing.....but when I planted them out, I thought they would go. I had them all in pots for a while, till they could be planted out. The Roaring Jelly didn't look good right from the start.

MMMMMM Chocolate.....chocolate in the garden, has much less calories than chocolate in the kitchen. lol.

Good luck with all the new iris. Looking forward to seeing some pics from you too...once they get going for you.

Yup, no calorie chocolate is the best! Apparently 'Death By Chocolate' even smells like chocolate.....this could end up being my favourite iris of all.;0)

Victorian Secret is still green and I picked it up about 3 weeks ago, so that should be a good sign. I find some of those siberians can be tempermental to get going.

Nope no new irises for me this year, I'm all irised out. I'm enjoying the ones I bought last year though. Having trouble with some mislabeling. Why are irises such shifty little things, they always seem to get mixed up!

I tried to order something "Chocolate" from Chapmans last year (don't remember exactly which one, it was supposed to smell like it too) but it got substituted.

Can anyone lend me $50usa to buy this gorgeous iris!

Laurie, I purchased SOPRA IL VULCANO from Snowpeaks last year, didn't bloom this year, so hoping it will put on a good show next year.

I was at WM on the weekend and I happened to notice 4 kinds of TB iris for only 2.97 each.

I bought 4,one of each. Brought them home and soaked them in bleach water for several hours, then soaked them in plain water for a while......and planted them in a spot as far away from my other iris as possible. If I remember I will mulch them for the winter. If they grow and turn out to be what they were labeled, then I will be a happy gardener. They are supposed to be:

I just got another coupon and catalogue from them last week. I threw it in the garbage. I had such a bad experience from them a couple years ago with lilies, I wouldn't want to risk it again. When I called them they said that they don't have anything that will grow in zone 2. So I guess they placed the blame on me for sending me really sad looking lily bulbs and one completely empty bag. I won't order plant stock from them, but I haven't had a problem with their seeds and they have the cheapest blooming bags. I hope your rhyzomes from them were healthy, but I would watch them very carefully. I know their photos are pretty!

All the rhz that came from Veseys were actually a decent size, they are already sprouting new swords on the sides.

I know what you mean Sierra, I've had some problems with Veseys in the past, especially mislabels, however they (Shirley) have always replaced or credited me with no hassle.

I have bought irises from Vesey's for a couple of years now. No problems with the blooming unless they send them LATE. I always blamed the mislabeling on my puppies for pulling out the tags! When I called to check the status of my fall order (which I got in by the end of June to avoid the late shipping) I was told that even if they did get the irises out to me in Sept., they wouldn't replace them as they are catalogued as zone 4. I lost the late ones last year but I think more due to the shriveled, delapitated condition they were in when they arrived. This year I ordered from the breeders, Chapman, Trail's End, Ferncliff and Walnut Gardens.
A question for you guys(or gals as the case may be). I have only planted irises on the south side of the house all snuggled in cozy like and am running out of room! Does anyone know if I would still be safe to plant them in the garden between peonies and roses? With some leaf protection of course.????

Virginia, as long as your irises are planted in lots of sun, they should be fine.

These Vesey Irises that I got late (Sept 8) are all potted up and will be overwintered in a cool room windowsill.

I would never plant Irises this late in the season, not in our zone. As well, those Irises planted late August will be heavily covered with sand come freeze time.

Planting Irises this late, you have a 50/50 chance.
