Fiddle leaf fig cutting

I have an enormous Fiddle Leaf Fig that has two large branches that need to come off. They are about 8 feet long and the branch diameter is about .75 inch. Can I cut these off and create a new plant? Do I need to air layer them or can i just put the base in soil and root it?
