Ooooh yes, they will self sooooow! I wouldn't recommend transplanting them right now in this heat wave. However if you're willing to watch over them making sure you get a good size clumps with lots of soil around them and water everyday till they take.

If they don't make it, well, I'll have lots of seed this fall, so don't worry ;)

Gil, they are annuals, but will self-seed for the following year.

Would someone be willing to save some of their seeds for me???? I would be willing to trade this fall for some of my Purple somniferum poppy seeds! (they self seed as well. I've found some seedlings in the bed I planted them in last year!)

BTW I am an oldie to GardenWeb(2years), but b4 my husband reformated our computer I could only get onto Canadian Gardening, and Canadian exchange forums. I used to be a member of another forum but they changed the site and made it very undesirable to stick around. So I've been trying to find another "gardening home" online! I thought I'd try this one b/c I definately could use the "expert" advice on our nasty zones. I've been doing alot of research and I think I'm more zone 2 than 3!!!

Well then welcome back to the Far North forum Wildie! Where abouts do you garden in Alberta? I just live outside of Wainwright.

Our nasty winters haven't been too bad these past few years, hopefully it will be a continual trend.

Our winters the last 2 years have been arriving later and sticking around longer, but the nasty cold spells are interspaced with warmer. Though I've been reading that that is worse on plants than constant cold!

I have Danish Flag Poppy seeds ripe now if anyone wants to send me a SASE.

Clayton, I'm so sorry I didn't see your post before... I have sent you an e-mail just now.

You must have collected seeds from every single seed pod. I hope you kept some for yourself!
They already have a home in the new house. On each side of the driveway are gravel strips. I'm going to bury some long freestanding planters and I'll plant the poppy's with tulips and maybe lavateria Twins cool white, & silver cup.

So I get this email from someone in Manitoba saying they will send my poppy seeds! Who? What? Why? Of course I had forgotten about this post. Thanks for catching me; the envelope will be in the mail tomorrow.

I have some seed of mixed somniferum which I may have to trade or SASE in the near future.
