My first post. I have a few questions regarding pests & diseases in my garden. IÂm trying to fight the urge to rip anything out that gets bugs! So any calming wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

1)juniper/hawthorne rust - saw the tentacled globs yesterday on an upright juniper. IÂve not noticed it other years. ItÂs right below what I believe is a Toba hawthorne. I also have crabapples which I understand can be part of the same cycle. I canÂt figure out from reading the other forums if you just live with this from year to year, or if I should be doing something, removing one or the other?

2)spittle bugs - most people just seem to say they live with them, but I have lots - too many to hand pick. Will this harm the plants? I guess sprays wonÂt penetrate the spit, right?

3)tiny green caterpillars on columbine - noticed some defoliation and found these little guys. Tried to hand pick and squish as itÂs a fairly small plant. Will this do the trick or do I need to spray so they donÂt spread?

4)rose weavil - every year my Therese Bugnet roses seem to bud wonderfully. But after the first few flowers bloom, the other buds get tiny holes drilled in them and die. I try to keep dead-heading, but I have had the same problem the past few years. Suggestions?
