I have one in a pot up in zone 7 NY. Pretty big figs that tasted very good. Got it from the same place as you.

I also have a young Native Black tree in a pot. It's doing all right, but is not as vigorous as some of the others. No figs from it yet, nor has it put on any little figlets. It did well over the winter getting bundled up with the other trees and covered with sheets when it got down to freezing.

I have been growing Native Black for a few years. Mine did not come from Durio's. However; since it is a local fig, I assume they are both the same.

The Native Black fig is an Italian heirloom fig that was discovered many years ago growing in the New Orleans area. It is a rather large almost jet black fig. In my yard it is a mid to late season fig. In appearance it looks like a rather large Black Mission fig. When ripe the skin will crack (not talking split here) revealing its underlying white meat. To me it looks beautiful when ripe. The flavor profile is somewhat like a Black Mission too. The eye is open in comparison to my Black Mission. Often it is sealed with leaking honey which helps it handle rain. It can split (not talking crack here) following very heavy rains. They DO NOT SOUR very easily when they are split......they still taste good whenever this does occur.

Native Black and Black Mission seem to be closely related. However, they are definitely not the same fig. The interior pulp of Black Mission is dense and kind of pasty in texture.......the interior pulp of Native Black is looser and never as dense. I really like the taste of this beautiful fig....especially when "the white meat" gets stained a purple color from the exterior black skin and its interior pulp.
