That looks like a Vanessa cardui larvae (Painted Lady Butterfly), do you see any poop near by?

That's what I was going to say, too, Sharon. Try putting one on a thistle. They love them. Good? Bad? I think it depends on what they are eating. Last year, when we had so may, I found them eating my asparagus peas. I just moved them all to a thistle and they were happy. The butterflies are really pretty.

Checked that out and i have Monarch caterpillars on my Asclepias! Wow! Not that the milkweed is too impressed, though! :)

Here's a better pic.. Its like he has a white streak down his back... The only butterfly flying around now is the large black & white Admiral I think.. Checked out some sites but could spot him.. Thanks Jan

This butterfly

Bygosh, I might have found it. I think it is Polygonia faunus - the Green Comma caterpillar. I never knew the caterpillar but I have seen the butterfly before. What do you think, Jan?

Shauna thats him, did a search & looked at different pics & read about him.. He's a Comma, of a sort.. They said he likes Elm trees & thats where we found him..
